Hello all!  I got my new Impression about 4 weeks ago.  It started locking up just about every time I selected the camera.  The phone would lock up for about 20 seconds, then reboot.  I took it back and At&t gave me a new one.  They had never heard of this issue.  Well now my new one is doing the same thing.  I'm going to see about getting a different phone.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I would check your storage card if that is where you have the pics saved. Sounds like your storage card is going bad or you have some corrupt files in the pictures folder that the camera application accesses.

Never heard this before. If you have it on 2 phones then it is not the phone. Has to be the card or you changed settings in the internals.

I got the Impression just over a month ago. I wish I had known about this issue beforehand. My phone freezes up when I launch the camera. It freezes for about 30 seconds and then automatically reboots. Then the camera works fine. It has only frozen on me a few times while texting (there is a thread about the texting problem in this forum). It also froze on me once when I launched MediaNet.

So, I took the phone back to AT&T. They tested the sim card and the memory chip and said they were fine. They gave me a new phone right there in the store, since it was less than 30 days. After a couple of days, the same issues came up with the replacement. I went back to the AT&T store and they told me that since I was past the 30 days since receiving the original phone, I would have to deal with the AT&T Warranty Department. After explaining the problem with them, they were going to send me a refurbished phone. They also told me that since it was past the 30 days, I could not return the phone for a switchout to another model.

Well, I am not a happy camper with AT&T. I have been using the same service for years from when they were Bellsouth Wireless, then Cingular, to AT&T Wireless. I also use them for my internet service. They don't seem to be trying very hard to retain me as a customer.

Time to start rethinking about who I am spending my money on.

For the year and a half that this phone has been out I have never seen this issue or really heard of it. So unless they changed the hardware or firmware I am stumped. If no settings were changed in the internals or service menu I am still thinking it is the storage card. Or possibly you are running too many apps at the same time. Maybe a memory issue.

I have never had any freezing issues ever. My phone did reboot about twice over its life. Both times I was streaming video and the phone was quite warm.

Well, I got my second replacement. This time it is a refurbished Impression. Day 1: camera worked fine, no problems. Day 2: camera worked fine, no problems. Day 3: froze for 40 seconds and restarted when I launched camera application. Same issue as prev two phones.

I just tried accessing the pictures on the memory card and the phone froze up again and restarted. So, I am thinking you are right about the memory card maybe having an issue. You would think that they would have check that when the first one had problems. ATT is very quick to just replace the phone.

That is ATT's response to everything. Send you another phone.

If you can, format the card in your pc with fat32 and then format it again using your phone and see how it goes from there.

The problem was with the storage card.  After installing a new 16 gb card, problem was solved.  It's been problem-free for 3 weeks now.  Thanks everyone.

Sorry you had to go through 2 new phones before getting to the answer.  That must have been frustrating.

I have had the same problem with the camera freezing up when I use it.  This started from the moment I first got the phone, and it has been replaced under warranty twice and the same problem has happened on all 3 phones.  I have not changed settings, and since it basically happened with the first picture I took, so I don't think storage or settings are the issue.  Any thoughts???

Have you used the same storage card in all 3 phones? Doesn't matter if it is the first pic or the 100th. Could still be the card. Even if you store to the phone it could still be the card. As mentioned above if all phones do it then it has to be something other than the phone.
