I just got off the phone with ATT. Was there and back and forth with Samsung. It seems I never get email alerts anymore. Does everybody else get their mobile email alerts or at least on a timely basis?

Well the first technician played dumb. Never heard of the problem. She actually thought I downloaded and installed 3.0. And I never did download and install it from ATT(not from ATT that is  Wink).  She had me contact Samsung because she said it was an issue with the phone.

With my talk with samsung they disagreed. It was definitely ATT and their network settings. I also chatted for awhile about the text messaging bug. Again they responded it is not the phone but ATT's network settings.

So I called ATT back. This gentleman saw on his computer that my phone was needing some much needed updates. He asked if I reboot my phone regularily. In fact I do once a day I told him.

Well he had me pull my battery then wait a minute and reboot the phone. A minute later I got a screen that was all black that had something like this at the top "pwr on/off" and "ok" at the bottom. He told me to cycle (reboot) my phone one more time that it was because my phone received updates and needed to reboot.  I have never seen that screen before.

Sure enough after my phone rebooted I sent myself an email. Almost instantly I got a mobile email alert. Then I sent another and I received another email alert. These updates seems to have fixxed my issue.

So i wonder what else these updates did? My gps has been taking many minutes to connect in the last 2 months. I wonder if it might have fixxed it too. Started google maps up inside and it connected immediately. Then I tried amaze and I got instant connection with the gps again.   Wow fixxed 2 issues at once this time.

I just wanted to share this info with the forum.  If you have issues with your phone please call ATT. Evidently we are not getting the updates we are supposed to be getting. This fixxed my gps and mobile email. Might also be another solution for that text messaging bug many of you seem to have.  Again the issue is not always a buggy phone but ATT themselves sometimes. And don't give in to that first technichian that just wants you to reset your phone and exchange it. There are some that know how to get things fixxed.  Again my phone is bug free and running flawlessly.  Grin

I just got off the phone with AT&T (my phone is working slowly for last few days, and it locks up once in the while).  I've been told to turn off the phone, charge it completely, and turn it back on.  It was recommended to do this on the regular basis.  Supposedly, this makes the phone to get the updates.  I also confirmed that the normal reboot does not force the phone to get the updates.

This kind of stuff is what really gets to me with ATT. "Oh yea, we have the stuff to make your phone better, but you have to ask for it", they hardly ever support any of their phones on the software side of things unless its Windows Mobile or the iPhone. Leave the rest of us to upgrade and upgrade and upgrade... Makes me sick.

AGoat,

How is your email notification working so far?

After charging the phone while being off, my phone works normally so far (doesn't slow down). On the other hand, first email notification worked fine, but afterwards back to normal. I got 6 emails that didn't get any notification.

Also, can you check if the software version changed?

Thanks

Wow!  That would be terrific to get fixed w/o paying for the alert service!
My alerts are sporadic with my Live account.  I'll get a couple of them each day.  Some days more than others.
What software version are you on now Goat?
What # did you call in order to get someone who wouldn't brush you off?  There's too many AT&T departments and it is so easy to get lost in the shuffle with them.

AGoat, how did set up moble email.

Is it just a setting on the phone, or did you have to do any forwarding of your emails?

Just got off a tech chat with AT&T and they had me power cycle, reset settings, reset network connection on their side.  Now mobile email appears to be down for AT&T so can't even test if it helped at all.  Said it appears to be a them issue with it not working (Connection failed (20)) message.

I just set it up with the installed mobile email. Cant believe my email alerts are working again. I feel like I was screwed with not getting the update. Almost reminds me of the time I went for years with my t-mobile without texting because they didnt update my sim.

Just got off the phone with an AT&T tech and she did the "re-register" thing with my wife's phone like they previously did with mine since hers had the "on & off" data/internet connection as mine did previously. After the re-register was done, I was instructed to power the phone back on and after about a minute later, like Goat's phone, hers had the black screen with "power off and back on". After powering back on, everything seems fine. Internet/data works like a charm!

This just saddens me that we have to call ATT and beg for our updates. This doesnt look good for the future.

Hmm...so there is an "update" so-to-speak from AT&T themselves. Should we call them even if we don't have any problems? I'm curious to see if any updates would make my phone less prone to bugs or even make it better somehow. I don't get to use the e-mail or the things mentioned here because I'm not on a data plan, but I am just wanting to get the "update" because it's an update. Anyone think this is the case, or does the update only fix certain things? So if I don't have them, I shouldn't call AT&T?

I've just spoken with a rep about this issue as well.  I really had to pry it out of them, and they still didn't have any solution for me!  He did put in a ticket for them to follow up with Samsung and figure out a fix for this (yeah like that will ever happen Tongue), but didn't have anything else to offer me!  Looks like I am going to have to get in touch with Samsung on this too.  This stinks!  Seems like I am only really getting alerts for half of the emails I get!  What a pain...

Did you try asking someone if your phone needed an update?

I did.  They said that there are no updates available for the phone.  And I even tried to mention that others were having trouble with this issue and it had been resolved with some sort of update with a power down.  They said there was no update to be had.  I talked with 2 different reps.  :/  I've missed about 5 more emails since then Sad  Don't know what I should do now.  Maybe i'll try again when i get some more time, and maybe I'll get lucky with a tech that actually knows something.  Is there something specific I should ask them about?  How does AT&T not document a fix for something that has been resolved like this!?!  It's really sad.

I wish i would have saved the email address of the rep that assisted me. He definitely did a network update. When you call back I suggest you ask for a tech representative.  It wouldnt surprise me that these people get paid on how fast they can disconnect with you.  I definitely had an update of something. He called it a network update.
