Hi everyone! This topic exists somewhere, already, I know.
(
http://www.samsung-impression.org/general-samsung-impression-discussion/does-using-an-instant-messenger-use-data-or-just-txt-msgs/15/)
But the information is different, so I'm starting a new thread to update it.
I
just, not 1 minute ago, verified with AT&T the policy on the charges associated with using the built in IM feature of the phone.
Alethia Jordan: How can I help you today?
Customer: Regarding my Samsung Impression:
Customer: I have an unlimited family plan for calling and texting
Customer: There is, however, a built in IM application in the messaging menu.
Customer: Will I be charged for data usage by connecting to and using it?
Customer: Provided that I have unlimited texting?
Alethia Jordan: That is a great question. Since you have to be connected to the internet to use the Instant Messenger, you will be charged data to connect and use this feature on the phone.
(I changed my name in the chat, to "Customer" for privacy reasons, but rest assured, I left all else untouched).
Anyway, as you can see above:
(Don't think I'm yelling, lol, it's just emphasis)
EVEN IF YOU HAVE UNLIMITED TEXTING, AT&T
DEFINITELY DOES CHARGE you for data usage with the built-in IM feature of the phone!
Just thought I'd let everyone know. I've been getting mixed responses on this myself, but this definitely clears things up for me. My guess as to why the information varies is that probably, AT&T's policy changed in the 2 years in between now and when this thread started.

Hope this helps!
