well to get the firmware there is a machine out there that will copy the firmware from your phone to a computer and then you ahve the firmware but that machine costs like $200+ so there is probably someone out there that will do that but you probably have to dish out the money for them to do it because everything costs money and nothing is for free

I stumbled one of the firmware posts here, and led me to the same site you posted. After doing some deep digging on the site, I found a post about a different firmware version on our phones, A877UCHL6. Doing a Google search on "A877" and "A877UCHL6" turned up a site from Saigon (yes, Google was kind enough to translate for me:). On that site, they posted 2 different firms, our current one, and another US version, the HL6; but I don't know what that one is...

Here is the report generated from WinRaR:

I knows not what to do with this, but it's there. I downloaded both versions. Note it says ATT in the file names, thus the US branding. I also think, due to the modified dates, the HL6 is the newer one, but just a guess.

***So.... according to ThroughHymm, I gots the firms, wheres my munnies?!?! XD***

I got the files from this site:
http://support.saigonmobile.vn/?pdir=SGH-A877_27056
This is the post I lifted the odd firmware version name from:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f452/i-need-a877-file-857338/

P.S. I don't remember seeing any of this stuff in the phone files, so I guess you still need the flasher thingy to get from point A to letter 4, right? The gsm site calls the device the Z3x Box, and looks like this:

Flasher Thingy

Me thinks McGuyver could rig one up for me out of bubble gum, a Tamagotchi pet, and a three week old piece of stale bread.

Shoots, very cool sir.

I'm thinking that MacGuyver wouldn't need the bread, just the yeast used to make it rise!  Grin

The A877UCHL6 looks to be a pre release firmware. The A877UCIB7 is the original firmware. The one with the T9 bug.

I'd like to download them but I can't even read the language to register.  Grin

I've signed up on this site. May I post both of the firmwares in this topic?

I thought the limit was 50MB for uploads on the site, right? These files are in the 80's.

I will try to upload them somewhere else, if not....

This was all news to me. I found out the same time you did. I do a search once a week for the newest firmware. Have never searched for the previous version with the T9 bug. I am watching that site hoping the new version pops up.

Is this firmware thing dead? Has anyone uploaded the firmware to the 'Net? If not, I will upload it and share the link if I am allowed to.

I know that you can flash phones with only the USB cable (I flashed my old Sony Ericsson using the USB cable that came with it), so will it be possible to flash the firmware files using the USB cable?

I am downloading the two software titles from the link above.  I do not want to damage my Impression, so I will let the experts install it and see if all goes well.  I can email (or Yahoo IM) them to those who know what they are doing with the software, if requested.
However, I would like these tested by professional modifiers before I install the software.

Any takers?  I am really fed up with this text freeze issue and want it corrected!  Maybe some real software gurus can improve on Samsung's ineptitude!

Long-time Cingular/AT&T user; I've owned & used these devices, in order from oldest to newest: LG CE500, Motorola ROKR E1, Samsung Sync, HTC 8525, & Samsung Impression [AT&T replacing it with the LG Vu Plus].

I upgraded due to AT&T's rude desire to require the $30/month smartphone data plan!  So, I have an unlimited messaging plan only.

Thought I was gonna upload the files, but I don't have the upload bandwidth to try right now. When I get back to a good broadband connection, I will post some RapidShare links. Sorry about the trouble. Just can't upload on AT&T's "slow as government" upload speed of .35 mb/s.

Yay! I revived this topic!

I've got a 6mbps connection. I guess I could upload some stuff.
