Well, I've had my phone for almost a month now. The apps are great... the phone is great... everything is great... I was going to wait until we had a ROM available to Goatbreak it. I'm just super paranoid, and the wife will murder me if I mess the phone up.

The thing that's making me consider it, even past my paranoia? THE DAMN NAG SCREENS ABOUT INTERNET USAGE! Really AT&T/Samsung? REALLY?! Couldn't you have added the "Don't ask me again you dirty bastage!" option to that screen? Would that have taken so much more programming? Would it have delayed the dev cycle for the phone? Would it have increased the cost dramatically?

This one... little... teeny thing takes this phone from "OMFG THIS IS THE BEST PHONE EVER..." to "OMG THIS PHONE IS AWESOME AND YET FULL OF FAIL AT THE SAME TIME" in less than 20 seconds. That... and the fact that they practially force you to buy the Data plan when you purchase it. Quite frankly, a phone like this is nearly made useless by not having a data plan. You can get something much cheaper if all you want is a QWERTY keyboard, and a nice screen, but I digress...

Anyone else have similar frustrations on non-Goatbroken Impressions? Just venting... hoping others feel my pain really. Also, anyone out there have any Goatbreaking horror stories? I'm not really finding any on search... but there's gotta be at least ONE person...

That LG hunk of junk, with a washed out screen, and QWERTY keys that are so close together an infant couldn't type on it...

I'm sure it's a great phone without a data plan. It's a great phone... however, without the Data plan it's just a text messaging device with a phone attached. So much wasted potential without that data plan! :-D

That is awesome to hear that this forum has made a difference. But I feel the same way. Phone was cool when i bought it. But we have come so far being able to add things and do certain things to it, the phone has become almost like a smartphone.

Well, I broke down, and installed my apps... the Goatbreaking way. Lemme tell you, what a difference. No more nag screens, GPS works... mostly. For some reason, even in clear skies, no buildings around, Google Maps is under the impression I'm in Russia... and only gets within 5k meters of where I am. Gonna jump in the wayback machine, and try again tonight. amAzeGPS is nice, but it's very, very clunky (to me) and now with 5.0 it keeps telling me to buy it...

It's really dissapointing that AT&T sells the phone with the feature of a GPS, it's even advertised as having a GPS, but to have it work perfectly, you have to use their stupid service.

One other weirdness I found was with Bolt. It worked fine before Goatbreaking, apart from nag screens... now it won't connect at all. Keeps saying the internet doesn't exist basically. Maybe it's another wayback machine moment...

Did you do something extra when you goatbroke the apps. If they were working previously they should be working fine.

With Bolt I install by using the jad only that I have on the forum. I upload it to wapHQ http://www.waphq.net/index.php to install it. Then all you have to do is use TKFE to delete the appdb folder and the manifest.mf.  No need to mess with the jar since the jad pulls the jar from Bolt's server.

Google maps with GPS (my version on the forum) is a little trickier. You cant send the jad to wapHQ. Either install the jad and jar with TKFE and the master key or send the jar to rumkin to install then use TKFE to copy my jad to the folder making sure it is the same name as the jad in the folder. Then delete the appdb folder and manifest.mf.  If you got googlemaps from google, that version wont use the gps.  You have to use my special version.

Also Im not sure about amaze anymore. The free version 4.5 is supposed to stop today. Im not sure what 5.0 will offer you without a paid subscription. I have the paid version and I will have to admit its worth to me paying $30 a year to have it. Works very nice.

Yeah, like I said, I probably skipped something when I installed those two apps, seeing as how everyone else seems to have no trouble with them. I'm stupid when it comes to that sort of stuff sometimes, and probably wasn't as careful as I should have been, since it was just the Java folder. Pretty unlikely from what I've been reading that you'll brick your phone that way... worst case scenarios are funky stuff with your programs, or them simply not running at all, and you just use TKFE to kill the offending program.

Now all we gotta worry about is AT&T doing an over the air update to provide better service to us that defeats Goatbreaking... for every Samsung Impression they do this to... I SHALL KILL THEM!

Got Google maps working with the WAP method. Seems to lock WAY faster than AmazeGPS, and is far less clunky, even with sattelite view turned on. It doesn't have the fancy animations of an iPhone, or an Android handset... but it does the job very quickly.

Bolt I had to reinstall completely for some reason. It kept complaining that there was no internet connection. I reinstalled, Goatbroke it, and it came up fine. Only problem I have with it now is the damn Java buttons, but I'll figure 'em out eventually here.

What are you talking about with java buttons? If you are referring to the dpad that was already explained many times. If installing with the jad edit the jad and put this line in it. MIDlet-Touch-Support: True

If installing just a jar file the edit the manifest.mf in the jar the same way.

If you look in my third party apps thread i already have the Bolt browser modified for fullscreen. Same way in the landscape browser thread.

I have installed all the apps listed in this thread over the past two weeks (plus many more) using either the TKFE method but mainly the BLUEFTP method.  i have never had connectivity issues with TKFE other than a lost connection a few times.  Getting it set up was frustrating because it only worked with 1 of 4 USB ports on my laptop, but once I figured it out, it has worked fine, even with my upgrade to the newest version of windows.  I have never used the goatbreaking method, rumkin, or some others mentioned for anything and have had no issues with any of the apps working.  I love what this forum has enabled me to do on this phone.  I had it for 1 year without a data plan and loved it, then began reading all the things it was capable of with a plan and decided not to eat 2 days a week in order to afford a plan.  I LOVE IT EVEN MORE!!!  I am going to keep this phone even after the contract just for all the games and other non data apps I have installed!!!

As for MAMA- I was hesitant as well, not knowing my way around the internals, but after trying it out realized it is not too difficult.  Once you open up TKFE, BLUEFTP, or the other programs and see what the threads are talking about, or go to the websites (IE Samsung Innovator), it all makes sense- even those where people destroy the English grammar!!  Jump in, but be careful not to touch anything you are unsure of.   Wink
