I was browsing the net and downloaded a pdf file (specifically " http://www.ncm.com/FathomContent/PDF/RiffTrax_Participating_Theatres.pdf") when my phone froze. None of the buttons worked. I had to take the battery out to power it off. When I replaced the battery and turned it back on, the touch screen no longer worked but all the other buttons and the keyboard work. I can receive calls and call out using the keypad but that's about it. Also, now the screen never shuts off. I have to power down to get it off. To me, it seems like there is a background program running and just needs to be closed but I don't know how to do that without using the touch screen. Anybody got any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

Did you try connecting your phone to your computer and deleting that pdf? I have never heard of a pdf file causing your touchscreen not to work.

When I connect the phone to the computer I cannot select a connection mode without using the touch screen. Is there another way using the key board? I've quickly found that this phone is mostly useless without the touch screen.

If you can call out with the keypad then the touch pad works. I am confused.

Sorry, I meant I can call out using the numbers on the keyboard. The touch screen doesn't respond at all.

So you cant dial a number? You can only browse through your contacts? I need to know if you found a way to actually dial a number and we can do a full reset on your phone. That seems to be the only hope. Other than that you will have to call ATT and get a replacement.
Have you tried taking the memory card out of your phone and see if it could be causing the issue if that is where the file was saved?

Yes, I can dial numbers using the physical keyboard and I cannot browse contacts. How do you do a full reset?

OK, I figured out calling with the keyboard. Just open up and dial.
You can press the call button and go through your calls that are in memory. That is what I meant about contacts. sorry.
There are 2 resets. One that resets everything back to factory and a reset that just resets your phone. Maybe we should try the lesser of 2 evils first.
Type this in your dialer. *#6984125*# Hold the fn down and press 5 and then 3
If that reset dont work then this one is your last resort. Pull your sim as I dont know if it will affect it. But it will erase everything on your phone and take it back to factory condition. Pull your memory card too.
When ready type this in your dialer *2767*3855#
Thats it. If that didnt restore your touchscreen then nothing will. Then its off to ATT. Let me know.

Neither worked. I guess I'll have to go to AT&T tomorrow. Thanks for your help though.

that's really odd that you can brick the touch screen by downloading a pdf file

I looked at the pdf. Its not a virus but it is also an unsupported file for our phone. We cant read PDF's without converting them first.

I have downloaded and read pdf's w/ the native software on the phone. The phone uses the same program it uses to read .doc files. Pdf's are supported, but very poorly. Very hard to navigate and slow to scroll.
