Using Microphone In-Call w/ Headphone Adapter?

Does anyone know of a way to enable the microphone while in-call with a headphone adapter plugged in? Its kind of a hassle because when im listening to music and someone calls me, i have to unlock the phone, take out the headphones, and accept the call. And then when the call is over, i have to plug the adapter in before the phone starts blasting my music. Im pretty sure its because the phone thinks that the adapter comes with a line-in port, but mine doesnt because its a 3.5mm connection.

Anyways, the point is, Is there a way to use the microphone during a call while having headphone adapters plugged in?
