Ok, my wife dropped the phone in the toilet, and by the time she got the battery out, she said it was smokin' hot.  So I put the phone in a sealed container full of dessicant, let a week pass by, and tried it.  The phone turns on fine, but there is no phone signal, although the data signal seems fine.  And, it turns itself off randomly. No insurance.  Am I screwed?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Phones were 5 weeks old.

Did you take out the Sim card?  Did you put it back in?  Do you have another sim card to try?

If all else fails, clean it up, take it back to ATT and play dumb.  It just stopped working.  Don't know how or why?  Need new phone!

Tried other sim cards, same result.  No signal, random shut-downs.  At&T will never take it back because water mark turned pink.

"You mean it's so sensitive that you can't carry it in your pocket??"  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Even better did you charge it on a credit card?  A lot of cards will cover it for you if broken or stolen (I believe).  American Express is pretty good on their extended warrantee.  It's something to check anyway.

Yea, I guess I can send my wife in there with my 3 small children, maybe cry a little...I don't know.  I'm going to let it dry for another week and try it again I guess.  Those stickers are very sensitive, and just pocketing the phone can turn it pink (I know this from experience as well), but those guys are usually real sticklers on the pink indicator.

You could always replace the sticker from an older phone if the same or make one or buy one on ebay.

do you have any friends who has access to a physics or chemistry lab of any university? if you knew anyone, you can ask them to put your phone into a vacuum oven with moderate temperature overnight. the color of the phone's sticker will turn back to normal. IF your phone still had issue, you can call att or samsung and they will never know that you dropped the phone into the water.

Well I only feel that way because my sticker has started turning pink and It hasnt gotten wet. Humidity is the only thing that has gotten in. And if something happens to that phone I am not letting that over eager sticker stop me from getting it replaced.

Not sure it is the wisest to be talking about fraudulent activity on an open board.

There is no fraudulent activity on this board.  Roll Eyes  So you are saying because your sticker turned pink because of humidity it is alright for ATT to void our warranty? And there is nothing fraudulent about replacing your sticker. You own the phone and can mod it as you wish.

Also is this any different than installing an app like Google maps that actually uses the gps or changing your volume in the service menu or making your phone minimize instead of pause? Even if you change the sticker the service techs are not stupid. They can see residue inside the phone that we cant. They know when we bricked a phone what we probably did. I am not condoning anyone to change their sticker after they dumped it in the toilet. Or to do any of the mods on this forum. Everything you do to your phone you take responsibility for. The forum will be held responsible for nothing.

I've been screwed so many times by phone companies...I would not feel bad in the LEAST for getting back at them just once.  As an example:  at AT&T, I bought 2 phones (several years ago) that had mail-in rebates on them.  I mailed the rebate in with the upc that I cut off the box.  Three weeks later, I realized that the phones were JUNK.  So I take them back to the store, receipts and boxes and everything else in hand.  I am told that they cannot take the phones back because the boxes had holes in them from where I cut the UPCs off.  Which I had to do to get my rebates.  That's when I changed to Verizon, after paying a huge plan cancellation fee.  Then I had to leave Verizon because they kept double billing me.  Then I went back to AT&T, and I'm not gonna let it happen again.

Underneath your battery cover is about a 1/4 inch white sticker. It turns red when it gets wet. There is 1 on the battery also. All cellphones have them.
