I read the thread about adding games to the phone with TKFE and I have done so successfully.  It took a while to figure it out, but I hadn't changed the phone setting to Samsung PC Studio, which finally did the trick!

Anyway, I tried to store 4 games on the phone, but then it ran out of memory! Sad  Apparently when the phone's internal memory is full, it auto disconnects from TKFE.  If it makes a difference, I installed the games: bomberman & magooatari, then ran out of internal memory.  I also attempted to install Deal or No Deal & 1VS100, but there wasn't enough memory.  I then tried deleting them directly from the phone, as TKFE couldn't delete them (as they were in use).  After deleting them on the phone but not updating the master key, I tried to transfer the jar files in TKFE and then update with the master key tactic, but they still did not work.  Maybe I should use master key after I delete the games from the phone first?  Any ideas?

Anyway, this leads me to the question in the title.  Has there been a fix for this found yet?

Long-time Cingular/AT&T user; I've owned & used these devices, in order from oldest to newest: LG CE500, Motorola ROKR E1, Samsung Sync, HTC 8525, & Samsung Impression [AT&T replacing it with the LG Vu Plus].

I upgraded due to AT&T's rude desire to require the $30/month smartphone data plan!  So, I have an unlimited messaging plan only.

If I remember correctly, there is like 16MB of internal memory.  Most games are a few hundred kb, so there's no way 4 games would fill up the internal memory on the Impression.

That being said, all games and apps must be installed and run from the internal memory.  Media used (i.e. current wallpaper, ringtones and contact photos) are also stored internally.  Everything else can (and I believe should) be stored on a memory card.

I would also recommend searching for the thread about BlueFTP and installing games and apps from the memory card.  I find it much easier than using TKFE.

Also, did you created and/or download a .jad file and install this in the same folder as the .jar?  And did you get a memory error when you tried to run the games after updating the java database or at another point?

Hmm maybe the ringtones from my memory card transferred onto internal memory.  I should look into a new ringtone maker, since the one I seen on the phone is a pay one.  The phone says 197,320K available Shared Memory; My Stuff contains 3,751K.  Then on the break-down, it says Audio 1.334K, Games/Apps 448K, & Pictures 1969K.  That is odd then; maybe I got the wrong .jar for the game then, as it may be too large.

I read one thread on the BlueFTP, and only thing I seen interesting was that it can hide files the best.  I guess the whole program was described in another thread.

As for the jad, I used the jadgen program for all the games.  They are both in the same folder as the game itself.  Is there a limitation of files per category?  Such as 1/4 for games, 1/4 for pictures, 1/4 for ringtones, 1/8 for video recordings, 1/8 for wallpaper?

Hmmmm...

I know several people that have had upwards of 100 games installed at one time - it'd be interesting to start a thread that had everyone's apps #s posted just for fun.  So it's probably not the number of games that you have installed, but something else...

It could be the ringtones because anything that you use on the phone, aka picture for a contact, personal ringtone for a contact, etc is transferred from mmc to the phone itself.

But then again the numbers you gave don't make sense if you are having a lack of memory issue.  I know it sucks, but you might want to delete all games and start over.  Try the BlueFTp method as it is the most stable of your options or if you have a data plan upload to rumkin or getjar if you dont need to mess with the jads for the game...

Good luck and let us know if anything else pops up!  Smiley

The impression does have about 200MB of memory. And judging from what you said you are no where near full. You will get an error installing a jar over 5MB. That is the internal memory for each app.

Also do not uninstall games or apps with TKFE. Do it from your games/apps menu. Only use TKFE to delete locked games/apps.

I believe that I removed most of the pre-installed programs (inside the exe folder).  The Yellowpages, AT&T GPS (except the 'Shop GPS Apps'), Music ID, XM Radio, Music Videos, Make-UR-Tones, & Media Mall all go to a black screen [that is, do nothing].

Is there a way to delete/toggle off the AT&T Internet?   I suppose I could access the setup and "change" the settings to the AT&T MEdia Net, if that has been determined a possibility.  I don't plan to get a data plan for this phone; I went to this phone due to AT&T wanting to add a $30/month for data on any new smartphone.

When I have my day off of work tomorrow, I will attempt again to add games via the TKFE tactic.

Speaking of games, I found some "free" games at mobilerated which require an ad to load, if not then the game won't be played.  Anyone know if it uses data, or just messaging (as the ad is just words)?  Does "goatbreaking" remove that requirement, because it's pretty annoying to have to "view" an ad each time I want to play their game!

I have all of my phone's internet capabilities pointing towards a dummy network setting to keep it from connecting to the ATT network and costing me $$.  This is very easy to do, just search for 'dummy network' and it should come up with the correct thread.

and thanks goat for correcting me, the impression has 190 MB of internal storage not 19 MB I had said earlier.  I did not know about the 5 MB limit for each program.  Good to know.

One last bit of advise: remove the Where app if you can.

Great, it's about time to call it a night here, but I will alter the network next time I look at my phone.

I forgot to mention the Where was stymied.  I wanted to note that the Shop GPS Apps was still connecting, but then I forgot about Where.

I hope someone can figure out how to "shortcut" another program into the now-defunct icons on the menu page, if not remove them permanently!  I would rather see emptiness on the screen than dead-link icons.

A quick update:

- The dummy internet settings worked flawlessly!
- I am able to upload a few more games, but after so many files, it loses connection, whereby the files in the transfer process need deleted on the phone and retried via TKFE. Sad
- Oddly enough, one game works fine, then a java error appears, but pressing the stop/backward, then reopening the game doesn't show the error.

Yes, the TKFE method is not the most stable connection.  Losing connection and having to restart at at whichever file it froze on is normal.  This is one of the reasons that they came up with the BlueFTP method.  Glad to hear that it's starting to work out for you though.
