Ok so the screen is not working or anything, the phone and the keyboard are, but the screen is not at all.... I cant get to menus or anything.... Is there anyway to fix this, out of hardware warranty, and i need my contacts... some are not on the sim... Any help would be awesome

Ahhh... I kinda miss my impression, i gave it away and got an iPhone... And now im hacking and jailbreaking just like my impression... But the person i gave it to is having these problems. He needs the contacts out of the phone because his sim is full and half are on the phone.

Hopefully the phone is in pc studio mode and you can connect with pc studio to retrieve your (his) contacts.

My Samsung Impression touch screen stopped responding. I think that a touch sensitive grid is glued to the transparent viewing screen. Therefore, I tried a simple experiment that fixed my non-responding screen.

After removing the battery and Sim card, I heated the front of the Impression with a laundry iron. I held the iron upside-down so that the screen side of the Impression was facing down. Also, in order to limit thermal shock, I placed a piece of cloth (specifically a micro-fiber polishing rag) between the phone and the surface of the iron. After 5 to 10 minutes the phone and rag were pretty hot, but not so hot as to scorch the rag. It seems it was hot enough to soften the glue and the touch sensitive grid, under the pull of gravity, settle into the soft glue.

Then I let the phone cool down, reinserted the battery and Sim, and the phone has worked perfectly since.

I am glad you fixed your phone but just for the record I would highly recommend that other members not try this. Just Saying  Wink

My Impression was having the same problems. I am on my third one actually and on all three the touch screen has stopped responding at some point. Lately mine seems to be working better, ever since I left in on the dash of my truck (accidentally) during a hot Florida day. Now it seems to be working properly. Not sure what fixed it but the "glued on grid" sounds reasonable. I'm sure the dash of my truck got hot enough to soften the glue.

Hopfully it will continue to work. I was just about to replace it with either an Atrix or an iPhone the same weekend it "fixed" itself. Maybe the threat of the trash can scared it into working  Grin

I found this blog pretty helpful: www.innovinfo.blogspot.com.

I followed the instructions and my phone worked fine afterwards. There are also videos on youtube that explain how to change the digitizer in the phone-- it's a pretty inexpensive fix if you can do it yourself; about $12.

Good luck!

We have a sticky on the forum all about this issue. It also has 2 very good videos.  One of which was done by one of our members.

Thread closed as we do not need 2 threads on same subject.
