Hello! I'm a new Impression owner, and was looking into getting a screen protector. I saw some on eBay, and checked the threads here, but it's a little confusing as to what brands/types of protectors experienced Impression owners are using with good results.

I'm a little hesitant to use a wet-application system, such as BestSkinzEver. I did see some mention of the Xtreme screen protectors. Is that the same as the Xtreme Guard brand? For example, here's an eBay auction with Xtreme Guards:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2X-SCREEN-PROTECTOR-for-Samsung-IMPRESSION-a877-by-XG_W0QQitemZ320384208604QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories

Also, are fully body protectors worth applying, or would it be better to use a "replacement body kit" -- such as a hard case, or silicon, or rubber?

Any help you could provide for this newbie is greatly appreciated. Smiley

Well....I'm using the hard backing rubber case/clear glass front and a screen protector kit which i got both from AT&T....it suits me fine.  Like others on the forum have said the hard rubberized backing gives a good "grip" feel.

I purchased some "cut-to-fit" screen protectors from Wal-Mart and they worked okay. They get scratched as hell pretty quickly.

I just recently purchase the ZAGG Invisible Shield for Impression and have had it installed for about 2 weeks. There isn't a mark on it and I don't treat my phone daintily. It rides around in my pocket all day with keys, change, and sundry other misc items. I does get some stubborn specks of dust though, but a little isopropyl and a towel take care of it. I highly recommend it.

I was thinking of getting a rubberized hard shell, but I'm really only worried about the screen. I need to see the full body Invisible shield in practice before I even consider that.

Thanks for the good input! I think I'm going to try a couple of different screen protectors from eBay, and perhaps a rubberized shell. I like my new Impression a whole lot, so I want to keep it safe. Wink

I was looking at a friend's iPhone with the inCase rubberize plastic.  I found some similar ones on eBay, and some exact-cut screen protectors.  They should arrive early next week -- I'll post a review.

Here's the case and here are the screen protectors

You've got to look for the protectors that say "laser cut" for something similar stating it is explicitly cut for your model.  Otherwise you get a generic square that is big enough, but you must cut it... never works right... I've been there.

Does anyone know where I can get a video of someone installing Invisible Shield for the Impression?

I would like to view it over and over before I take the plunge and install my own Invisible Shield.

If someone knows of an installation that is for a slide-out keyboard phone/PDA, then that would be appreciated as well.

Could anyone please share some tips/tricks for installing the Invisible Shields?

Thanks

I wanted to ask again if ANYONE has videos of putting on an Zagg InvisibleShield onto an Impression or ANY similar gadget for the FULL body (both front & back!) coverage.

Fortunately, I will have some time off from work for the holiday break so I will be able to take my time installing my InvisibleShield and NOT rush thru it!  I am planning on asking Zagg for as much help as possible.  I also read over their tips/tricks, look at every installation video (esp. Zagg's), and do a search on You Tube for ANY helpful videos.

I would appreciate ANY tips /tricks that ANYONE for the installation.  I would like to know what is the best way to take care of my Impression once it has the InvisibleShield installed on it!

Thanks in advance

i have done full body protection before on a different phone and basically the only thing that you have to really worry about is the edges of the phone b/c the protectors dont really like to stick to it  as much but there really is nothing to worry about just follow the instructions and make sure you place the body peice in the right place and you will be alright

Punisher2008, THANKS for your reply,

I REALLY appreciate it.  I was wondering if you knew ANY GOOD videos that I could study/review before I install my full body coverage onto my phone.  I plan on asking Zagg for ALL the help that I can get plus REREADING their tips/tricks, studying their instructions, viewing ALL their installation videos + ANY You Tube videos.  I am expecting my ZaggFoam to come ANY day now and want to be ready to install my InvisibleShield soon!

If you don't mind, can you tell me which phone you installed it on?

Thanks

it was nokia 6555

(very nice looking phone i loved it but the phone sucked due to that the battery lasted one day without even using it and it would randomly shutoff on you)

it seems like to me stteng that you are really worried you are going to mess up while putting this on. first thing to do is calm down and take a deep breath. just take your time putting the protector on the number one thing that goes wrong while doing this type of stuff is taking it too fast and that is when things really go wrong. what my dad use to say to me when i built my model rockets, "measure twice cut once". it goes the same for this too look twice, place once.

I purchased the cheapest screen protectors I saw on ebay.  They fit perfectly and are holding up well.

i recently purchased the zagg screen protector easy to apply was a little strange that they sent you a sponge to apply the screen protector with their "special formula" may be important in activating something on the screen protector may not be but anyways my screen has a few scratches on it from being naked but now they are invisible and doesnt even feel like there is a screen protector on there but i did put it on a little crooked but not enough to really bother me

Same here. They are durable, fit perfect, Finger glides easily over them. Wouldnt even know it was on there. I think I got 3 for $5. Might have been cheaper than that.

I had a Blackberry Pearl and used BestSkinsEver.com for the two years I had the phone. There is not one scratch on that Blackberry at all. It still looks like the day I got it. I also had a leather case that gave it protection and I am a light user.. take both those things into consideration.

The only problem I had was that the leather case would tend to leave dark spots on the screen skin after awhile, but they still lasted about a year each before the edges became worn and peeled. Still, the peeling was very minimal.

Using the wet type application was pretty easy except for the edges but you just have to be patient and hold them down for a few minutes. The less wet they are, the faster they will stick.
If you decide to get a wet type application here is what I learned:

Make SURE your fingers, fingernails AND the phone are clean, clean clean.

Use MINIMAL soapy water. I dipped the skins in a bowl made up of about a half cup of water with a couple drops of Dawn dish soap then gently shook the excess water off.

DON'T use dish soaps that have lotion mixed in to make your hands purty and soft

Wet your fingers before you take the skins off the sheet or else you will leave fingerprints on the sticky side of the skin

If you do leave fingerprints.. just wet the sticky backing again and they should disappear.

PAY ATTENTION to which side of the skin is the sticky side. Its VERY easy to get it turned around.

Take the back cover OFF to apply the skin. Take the battery out of the phone.

Use a credit card to smooth down the flat places (screen and back cover) Wet the credit card on the edge so it will glide.

If you get it on crooked, pull it off SLOWLY to reposition it then re-wet it.

Yeah I know it sounds hard to do but its not. Just pay attention to what your are doing and be patient.
