Yikes. I would be silent for awhile. That definitely sent a red flag to someone. I would guess since you didnt get charged you won't. But you are well over that 5GB fair use limit.

Just simply GREED on AT&T is all. I was with T-Mobile for 10 years until I switched a few days ago. When I was with T-Mobile, I could tether on the $24.95 data plan all day long.

I wish I knew this before I signed the 2 year agreement with AT&T.

AT&T is GREEDY!

I have AT&T and I've been using my Impression for tethering for a few months now.  Each month, I have gone severely over the "5GB" limit they have, and not once have I been "warned" or charged or anything.  Of course, now that I say that, my next bill will probably have a $2000 charge on it. Tongue

I spoke with one AT&T tech support specialist about tethering just recently as I was having issues, and she made no comment on the 15GB I had already used in that three week span.  I made certain to even talk about it, saying that I'm sure the 15GB I've used already shouldn't affect this.

Her reply?

"No, it shouldn't.  You have an unlimited data plan, and you aren't bound to any restrictions."

This is also what the representative before her said, so I'm wondering how "strict" they are regarding the "5GB" limit.  Some companies, I know, impose a 5GB limit, but after that, speed slows down.  That may be the case for AT&T.

Just food for thought.  Tethering is the only way I can keep in touch with my wife and children back east for now anyway.

OK I was using my Razr 3XX as a modem for my laptop and it worked great using Motorola Phone Tools, a little slow but it was workable. Now I have upgraded to the Samsung Impression (I think) and was wondering it the Samsung PC tools will allow me to do the same?

No NPS won't give you an access point for the internet.  All you need though are the proper drivers for the phone to be used as a dial-up modem.

PLEASE read the first post in the thread for the details.

Hey, just so everybody knows, if you download Samsung New PC Studio version 1.5.1.10064_2 which you can get from samsung.com and you look for the Impression, go to support and downloads, and click on software. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/at-t-phones/SGH-A877RBAATT/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
that's the direct link to the page too.
if you have this program, it has a widget for the program (not for the phone) that allows you to set up the conection to tether your phone. any questions? just ask

The Samsung Impression is now officially supported by the AT&T Communications Manager, forgot what version, but it's the latest one. Although, when I installed it, i couldn't get it to connect to the webs. It recognizes the phone, starts the dial-out, then poops on the PPP connection settings. But all in all, it is supported by AT&T's official software, so tethering seems hidden but authorized.

Anyone get that POS software running with the Impression?

ATT's site says " If you’ve upgraded your data plan to include laptop tethering " , so , does that mean you have to call ATT and they need to  allow it for you  ?

Only if you want to pay for it.  Wink  The only other benefit is they will give you a different network profile. We use the cingular.wap with our phone. And they might give you cingular.isp. Not sure of the direct benefits though.

Thanks for that info . ATT already gets enough money from me every month . If I decide to try it I think I'll keep my mouth shut . Smiley

UPDATE!!

i just noticed that the unlimited data is no longer an option for my phone, but it is for other non smart phones under my family plan,

the $15 unlimited data and the $10 unlimited data with discount for family messaging, are gone, the only option is the $30 messaging and data. so if i want unlimited data i have to pay twice for txts, thats bull.

but oh well, with best buys new buyback program im going to get and android phone.

Why do you have to pay twice for texts? Texting unlimited is $20 whether by itself or part of the combo plan. All be it that texting is not worth $20.

Just checked my plan and all options are still there.

Generally, if you dont go over the 5GB cap, you should be fine? If you just use email, facebook, and instant messaging, do you think it'll go over 5GB?

I live in a major city with 3G(+) connection.
