Connecting to PC Studio (impression won't leave mobile modem mode)

Hi, I am new to the forums and first I would like to say thank you to everyone here who has made the impression that much better of a phone, I appreciate all the work you have done on the phone.

Second, I have downloaded TKFE and the Solstice's PC studio version from samsung and I am having a problem getting my phone to connect to PC studio.  I have already searched the forums and could not find a thread with my problem, so here goes.

I am running Windows XP SP 3 and whenever I connect the impression windows recognizes it as a mobile modem.  It is listed under device manager as Samsung Mobile Modem and I have 2 problems connecting it to PC Studio.  It either gives me an error that the Impression is already in use by another program and I must close that to connect OR if I get the phone connected fast enough to PC Studio, it will connect but when I try and open the phone's folders or transfer any files PC Studio tells me that "modem mode only supports internet connection."  

I don't know how, but I was able to make a connection ONCE and used TFKE to delete some locked apps, but everytime after no matter what I do it always stays in mobile modem mode in PC Studio.  I have restarted my computer and my phone, I have uninstalled and reinstalled all samsung drivers in add/remove programs, and it keeps giving me the same message.

I know many people have problems using the impression as a mobile modem, I am having the problem of using it for anything other than a mobile modem.

Any ideas?

No, I did not plug the phone into my computer before I installed PC Studio, and if I try a different USB port it installs as a second samsung modem under device manager.  I haven't gotten around to it but I'm going to try and delete just the samsung modem drivers and keep PC studio and see if that works.

I have a similar situation. Phone is recognized as a mass storage. However, a few weeks after I did that, I then tried to connect to PC Studio since TKFE wasn't finding my phone while in PC Studio mode but it won't recognize my phone. If these are separate issues, I'll gladly open a new thread.

I did have the phone set to connect to PC Studio. I will try power cycling prior to connecting. I notice that I have to power cycle with this phone a lot as I'll have time periods of no texts, not able to send texts, or other weird glitches.

How long do you keep it off?
