I am very confused with using TKFE.  I installed it and I plugged my phone in.  I then clicked setting, COM.  There was 1 option, which was COM4.  I clicked it and then clicked ok.  I clicked connect.  I waited but an error came up saying The Communication link is lost. HELP!

Did you make sure that you had everything that was listed in the first post of this thread?  Proper drivers, proper phone settings, etc etc?

I finally fixed this problem guaranteed for windows7 64 bit and you do not need to install the modem device.  I do not have a modem device class in my registry key "HKLM/SYSTEM/CURRENTCONTROLSET/CONTROL/CLASS".  You can determine this by navigating to the key and doing a search for the word "Modem".  This key lists all the device types that can be installed in the PC which correspond to the categories in the device manager.  Below are the steps to get the phone to connect for those that can not get it working any other way.  It only requires PC Studio for the Solstice and the modem drivers, which can be located in "
C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung New PC Studio\USB Drivers".  This is the folder I installed PC Studio to.  It may be different for you if you did not use the default path.

Each folder contains separate drivers which windows 7 x64 can not detect.
Instructions:
1 -  Install the PC Studio for the Solstice.  Do not connect the phone.  Once the install is done go to the device manager.  Connect the phone.

2 - There will be a splat (yellow exclamation point) under "Other Devices" called "SAMSUNG CMDA Technologies".  This device is not the modem.  It is the device used by the USB port to assign a COM port which can then be used to connect the phone to TKFE and PC Studio.

3 - Double click the unknown device and click update driver.
4 - Click "Browse my computer for driver softwate"
5 - Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
6 - In the "Select your device's type from the list below" window select "Show All Devices" and click next.
7 - You do not have to wait for the list to fill.  Click "Have Disk..."
8 - Enter the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung New PC Studio\USB Drivers\2". Again this is the default path.  THe main thing you need to get to is the location of folder 2 in the USB drivers folder.  Click OK.
9 - Select SAMSUNG Mobile USB Port.  Click Next.  Ignore the Update Driver Warning.  Click Yes.  THe drivers will install.
10 - Step 9 now installed a USB driver that mimics a com port.  Go back into the device manager and you will now see a new category called "Ports (COM & LPT).  Click the + to expand the category.  you will see the new COM port you created from step 9.  It should look like this:
SAMSUNG Mobile USB PORT (COM#) where COM# represents the COM port assigned to the phone.
11 - You should not get another unknown device but if you do you can ignore it as it is the modem itself.  IF you have no intention of using the phone as a modem to dial out you do not need it.
12 - Open PC Studio and click "Search Device" in the upper right corner (magnifying glass)
13 - A window will pop up saying "Searching for USB Device"  It should complete and successfully find your phone using the same COM# as notied in step 10.  Select it and click "Connect".  You should now be able to use PC Stuio.
14 - Make sure you disable the COM port monitoring service in your taskbar (services loaded in the background)

15 - Load TKFE .  Go to Settings->COM
16 - Enter the same port number you used to connect to PC Studio.  Im my case I used COM6 so in the
Port Dropdown box (should be empty) I typed in "COM6" in capital letters and no quots.  Left Baud rate at 115200, parity at 8, stop bits at 1, byte size at 8.
17 - Clicked OK then click "Connected"  Behold I connected!!!

TK File Explorer has stopped working for me???
I've used it successfully for quite some time but today it just can't find the phone?
PC Studio finds it and connects without a problem but everytime I try to connect with TKFileExplorer I get "Error:The Communication link is lost" message....  Anyone run into this problem?  I did redownload TKFileExplorer thinking it may have been corrupted but that didn't help either..

I tried everything BUT don't ask me why it worked but I pulled out a old TK File Explorer Configuration settings (.ini) file from the Recycle Bin which is always listed on my desktop when I run TK File Ex. I deleted a while back and when I ran TK this time it connected... Why this made a difference is beyond me but I will not be deleting this one for sometime lol..
Does this make ANY sense to anyone?

After struggling for hours &hours, I found these simple instructions.
Followed them step by step & BAM!! Worked first time...
**before starting, I uninstalled all the Samsung device drivers & PCStudios & Modem drivers I could find in control panel..

after restarting my XP Home edition. here goes..

"a few things to get it all to work:

    * Install the software "MCCI_WHQL_USB_Modem_Driver_4.40.7" (or latest version).
    * Install the software "Samsung_NPS.IB5" (or latest version).
    * On the Samsung Eternity:
         1. click on Menu
         2. click on Settings
         3. click on Connectivity
         4. click on Select USB Mode
         5. click on Samsung PC Studio
         6. click on Save
    * Using the USB cable (make sure it is pushed all the way in on the phone) connect the Phone to the PC
*****  VERY IMPORTANT!!!!   At this point, the PC should sense the new hardware being connected and load the drivers properly
    * If it didn't start automatically, start the Samsung PC Studio software, wait a short while and phone should be detected (icon with Samsung SGH-A867 in the upper right part of the screen)
"""

now close out PCStudio & run TKFE & CONNECT!!!!

the 2  files can be found within this thread, I believe.

I downloaded TK FIle Explorer and then selected settings and then com. A new window popped up. I selected port. Com6 was listed. I selected okay and then pressed connect. However a window popped up that said Warning: Unable to select the specified port. Please try again. I have rebooted the computer and phone multiple times. I have no idea what to do. Please help me.

No luck through bluetooth thus far. But you can find a USB cord on EBAY for like $0.99...
