Things I found out that helped me: (Using Windows Vista, USB & Impression)
1) This was said above, and in the post
http://www.samsung-impression.org/samsung-impression-how-to/getting-started-usb-guide-from-pc-studio-to-apps-no-data-plan-friendly/msg21569/#msg21569, but I still didn't get the difference at first:
- Do not make any phone connections settings while the phone is connected to your computer. Not even to respond to prompts. If it prompts you, disconnect & fix the settings and then re-connect.
- While disconnected, use the phone's Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Select USB Mode -> Samsung PC Studio & Save to make the change. Then turn the phone off & on before connecting it for either TkFE or PC Studio.
2) In TkFE, I found the easiest & best way to choose the COM Setting was just click "Default" and then "OK". My COM number changed with USB ports, but this found the right one every time.
3) Using TkFE, and remembering a post I saw asking if anyone had copied their phone contents before modifying, I tried to do so after closing everything except my notes file on my computer:
I selected the phone (on the lower left) and "all" (Ctrl + a) (on the lower right) & dragged from lower right to upper right to start a copy. (I forgot everyone's warnings)… I got several folders up above & then “Not Responding”. I waited a while, still Not Responding. I opened Task Manager (by right-click on task bar at bottom of the screen & left-click on "Task Manager") – Applications tab: selected TkFE & clicked “Switch to” and waited. It responded & looked like it finished.
Browsing new files would not work in TkFE, but browsing phone in TkFE & copy in Windows Explorer showed the same things. (Did not check every folder, just top 2 levels & they had same number of items & same file sizes, allowing for Windows’ rounding of numbers.)
I disconnected (software then USB cable), closed & reopened TkFE and re-connected (USB cable then TkFE software) and now TkFE browses through both phone and my computer's copy of its files just fine.
Basically, I found using TkFE needs lots of patience, and reminding my computer what it's supposed to be doing.
MANY, MANY THANKS to Agoattamer and thegreedyturtle!!
