My Impression was working great and all of a sudden it shuts off with full battery. When you turn it on it does one of two things.

The att boot screen plays through and immediately the att shut down plays and the phone freezes on the Goodbye screen.

If I slide the phone open and turn it on, the phone boots all the way, updates the time and within 15secs shuts off and freezes at the Goodbye screen.

Anyone have any ideas??

okay so it's most likely not the battery. have you tried a factory reset? If that doesn't work you could try and reflash the phone.

well the problem is, the phone doesnt stay on long enough to do a factory reset. It shows the att boot then imediately shows the shut down and then freezes at goodbye when it gets all the way in you have 10secs tops before it shuts down and freezes at the goodbye screen.

So I am guessing that either a reset or flash isnt going to work?

You should still be able to flash the phone. Holding the volume button and power button should take into the bootloader screen. There is a how to flash phone thread in the how to section.

So, wierd thing is, if I hold down the power button while the phone boots, it will boot all the way and stay on and I can even text. Any time you mess with the power button or do anything intensive blue tooth/games/apps/make a call it shuts down and freezes at Goodbye. I guess I will try to do a reset and see what that yields. Any more ideas?

*Update* Everytime I  went to menu/settings/reset settings/phone and put in the password, as soon as I pushed ok the phone would shut down and freeze at goodbye. I finaly got it and it said your phone will be reset and restart. Upon restart the boot screen came up and then it shut off and froze at the goodbye screen.

Holding the volume button and power button does nothing and then eventualy it shuts off and freezes at the goodbye screen.

*Update 2* I got the phone to make a call and everything went as normal. When I pushed the power button to end the call it ended and went to the home screen. No none of the physical buttons work or the touch screen until I pull the battery and restart it.

I should also note that when it shuts down and freezes at the goodbye screen I have to pull the battery to shut it completely off. When I put the battery back in the phone automaticaly starts itself.

This may be a hardware issue from when you replaced the digitzer flex cable something may be loose. But if you want to flash the phone to see if t is software related then you need to turn phone off then hold the volume down button and then press the power button this will take you to a screen that says demsbl boot loader then follow this link to the how to flash you impression thread and follow the instructions. If after flashing the phone it still giving you problem then it is hardware related and you may need take it apart and check to make sure everything is connected.

Flashed the phone. Booted up with no issue (auto booted from inserting the battery). Power button still un responsive. Started a game loaded fine but pushing on the lower of the screen caused the game to ask if I want to exit as if I pushed the power button. When this happened the whole touch screen and the physical buttons were unresponsive and then it shut down and froze at goodbye.

At this point I would have to say it's hardware related and I really don't have any other suggestions for you. Sorry Sad

Thank you for your help I guess at this point I would prob have to take apart my other impression and swap out parts until the broken one works (if it works) and then track down the parts and wait for them and fix it. I guess the question is, is the phone worth it. I will prob buy a new phone and fix this one in the meantime and sell it I guess.

I know this thread is long and things were looking grim but I hope I still get some action here. So I figured I would give the phone a break for a some days and check back on it.

The phone almost completely works (Games, calls, texting, internet, physical buttons including the power button, touch screen, everything works) except for one wierd minor issue.

The last and final quirk, when I hold the power button to turn it off, it shuts down and what I thought was freezing on the Goodbye screen is now just sitting on the Goodbye screen. It just sits there, if I hold the power button again the phone will quickly turn off and then boot back up.

What do you think would keep it from shutting completely off?
