Hello all, I've had my Impression for almost two years and with all of your help I've been OK with it. It took some doing but I got Google maps to work the way it should. (again thanks to all of you). I also used all of the knowledge here to be able to use my Impression as a modem with my lap top. Now here it comes. Three days ago my Impression started to work on SPEAKER PHONE only. The Music player works, the speaker phone works but if I simply took a call I could not hear a thing. (unless I was in an isolation sound proof box) I was told the phone would have to be replaced. I did have the insurance but of course they would not replace it with another Impression. (my how models just seem to die and more roll out) They gave me a Pantech Laser which seems pretty close to the Impression. I know how to do all the simple stuff with the contacts and pictures but my question is do I need to start over to get my Google program and modem capability to work as well as it has for over a year? Are the manufactures of the two phones that much different that the same techniques are useless or will I be able to load my new phone pretty much the same as my Impression? Thanks for any and all advice.

The differences of the 2 phones are like night and day. I am assuming you can forget anything in this forum. I don't even believe the screen resolution is the same.

Yes you are right. But after setting up the new phone and being on a call with AT&T for a hour I have found a solution. Not only have I been paying 5 bucks a month for phone insurance for 6 years for what has become another corporate scam but now AT&T wants to start charging me another 5 dollars a month to set up my mobile email account. I have an unlimited data plan and had never been charged for my yahoo email but now since I have a "new" phone I need to pay extra for email? Over 6 years and with a 50 dollar new phone charge I figure I just got scammed for 400 dollars for a replacement phone that's not worth crap. Here's what I've decided. Bite the bullet and pay the 50 bucks, put my sim card back into my Impression (free email) , set this POC new phone on a shelf (or sell it) and for the next 4 months put up with having to take and send calls using my speaker phone. When my contract is up in July AT&T can KISS MY A$$ and a customer that has been ontime with his payment for 6 years will be going to a different carrier.

The reason they are charging the $5 is because in ATT infinite wisdom have put mobile email 3.0 on all the new phones but if you can find a way to install it you can find the 2.0 version here. If you can het installed on the pantech you should be able to avoid the $5 a month charge.

hello,
i also recently had my samsung impression replaced by the phone insurance co. that i pay $5 on month to. i received a pantech laser as well.

i'm trying to goatbreak files on the pantech laser but tk file explorer won't recognize my phone.

is their another program like tk file explorer that might possibly work with this pantech laser? maybe their is a program out there that works with all phones that will let me access my system files. did research and can't find anything. any suggestions?

i don't like this new phone and i am looking to buy a used samsung impression because i invested so much time and money to my impression because it rocks!

please help, thanks you!

TKFE only works with Samsung phones.

Pantech phones usually don't have any "hacks", so to speak.

oMg. FRom Now On. I will buy a copy of the phone as backup...I hate investing so much time into my phone (not has much as Goat did) and then have it crack and everything goes down the drain. Especially when they keep rolling out the 'old' phones and replacing them with new ones. The Impression is SO much better than the Pantech Laser.
I tried out the Pantech laser found a couple of 'problems' right away:
-when sliding between the 3 home screens, there is either alot of lag or a 1 second lag.
-paying for email?! f that
-im not sure if it can be changed, but the browser (there are two pre-installed) likes display pictures in a tiny thumbnail.
-the 'shortcuts' home screen, where you can add short cuts to some tools. this screen has very limited use as the shortcuts you can add are only single music/video files and some of the tools in the tools menu.
-the 'useful' browser and the music player is placed all the way in the applications folder...
-the 'drawing commander' has very limited use also since you can only use as a quick shortcut from the locked screen. and by 'locked screen' i mean the locked screen that appears AFTER you press the lock button manually. if try to use the drawing commander in the locked screen that appears after you leave the phone idle for a time, it doesnt work.
-the att navigator has a Maps section that you can use for free, but after a while, the gps stopped working. no idea why. the maps pretty much shows your location on the map. if your location is not near a road on the map. the gps wont be able route directions to your location or from your location. you also cant manually add a certain spot on the map to favorites by double-clicking on the spot. you have to enter the address to the search bar. same thing goes for getting directions to a certain spot that you click on the map. the dot also doesnt indicate the direction you're moving like the gmap in Impression.
-no exterior shortcut button to go to camera.

HOWEVER, there are a couple "good" things i noticed about the phone:
-very slim, in fact, the thinnest slide-phone i've ever seen.
-relatively light when compared to Impression
-camera resolution is a bit better than the Impression
-other than the home screens, the rest of the phone operates relatively fast.
-you longer need the exterior lock button to unlock the phone. just press and hold the lock button on the touch screen to unlock.
-music player; omg this was one of features i liked most. the music player has a alphabetical scroll bar on the left side of the screen. it's similar to the one in the AddressBook in Impression. this is SO much better for scrolling through the 2 gigs of songs i had on my sd card. [i havent tried installing the other music player apps since the one that came with the Impression had a Shortcut at the mainscreen]

all-in-all, if there was hacks or TKFE for the Pantech Laser, i'd gladly switch to the phone since is SO slim.
