I modified my Impression to run apps in background during a Suspend. Used the post about modifiying Internals|JavaSettings|VMSetting, etc. It worked and has been very handy for GPS tracking, etc.

However, I have recently noticed that the phone now seems to discharge very quickly, giving a "half-gone" battery indication in a few hours, or a full discharge if left overnite. I have used my regular practice of full discharge/recharge regularly on this battery. It's only about 8 months old, with normal everyday use.

Would this active background processing be the reason for the "Quick Discharge"? Any suggestions or approaches to improving this?

Many thanks,

Of course, running apps in the background will use up the battery no matter what.

Another example of this would be the iOS 4 multitasking being on iOS devices that doesn't have it by default. They just don't have the hardware to support it, which is why it results in so many crashes and slow performance.

That was great for the old NiCad batteries, but you could be damaging the Lithium-Ion using that method.

I've had my Impression for over a year (and the same battery) but don't multi-task all that much (for long periods of time). I noticed that my battery is losing a charge faster now. It's kind of odd though what's going on. I THINK it started happening after I installed the latest version of Snaptu. The battery will be full. I'll load and use Snaptu some - check Twitter and Facebook quick, read an article or two and then my battery will go down to 2 bars from 4. I'll try using Snaptu again and then it'll flash dead battery. After I don't use Snaptu or whatever for a while it'll say I have two bars again. I'm wondering if it's Snaptu or if I need a new battery.
