There seems to be a number posts regarding these problems as of late with the impression. So I am starting this as topic with a sticky. If you are having any issues with your touchscreen it is most likely the digitizer. If you are having problems with your keyboard other than the known text bug issue it is most likely a problem with the flex cable. These parts can be purchased from ebay for little cost. Here is a video showing how to replace them thanks to FauverBeans for finding this. Before posting anything regarding these problems PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BOX you will find a number of posts regarding problems with the touchscreen and keyboard. If after reading the other posts you still are unsure then feel free to post your question here. If you have replaced your digitizer or flex cable and wish to post suggestions or comments to help other members please post them here.

The above video doesn't show how to remove the flex cable from the phone. The video below from julieannjohn shows the trick with disconnecting the flex cable.

To add to E Cadro's post. Digitizer issues are no touch response at all or touch points are WAY off (1 inch for example).  Flex cable issues are noticed when opening and closing the keyboard. If the display changes colors, goes black, or loses touch when opening or closing the keyboard then it is more likely your flex cable.

There have been numerous threads opened about this issue. The video and what has been stated in these 2 threads is all the help for you. Parts can be picked up on ebay very cheaply. Around $10 for digitizer and $4 for flex cable. If under warranty you can have ATT replace or repair your phone for you. If you get a replacement it will not be an impression but more than likely a LG VU+.

Any more new threads about this issue will be closed.

Just a note- make sure your computer is enabled to play videos through youtube- any internet safety blocking software will not allow it to display.

I just replaced my digitizer and it was not that hard.  The main thing is to have a good way of keeping tack of where the screws go.  I made separate piles for each step and then worked backwards to reinstall.

My wife's phone is also having a problem with the screen going blank, opening or closing the phone several times seems to have no effect. She is also having one other problem when that happens. It usually occurs when she is making a call, and whoever she is calling can hear her, but she cant hear anything. The touchscreen functions fine when you can see it. I am going to go ahead and replace the flex cable, and hopefully that takes care of both. Unfortunately this phone is out of warranty, just barely. I didnt realize it was a 1 year warranty or I would have gotten this fixed already. The biggest problem my phone has is the text bug, and every once in a while the qwerty keyboard is non-responsive.

I don't have much experience with a Samsung Impression, i bought it off my friend for about 50$. The digitizer works fine, but it's a little scratched up and that bothers me. Can you tell me What's the difference of buying a digitizer built into the face plate and one that is not? What are chances of messing the phone up while disassembling it to replace the digitizer? What should i be most careful around? Also is there a video to reinstalling the phone after disassembling it? Please help, thank you very much.

I replaced the flex cable in my phone, still powers on but screen doesn't come on nor respond.  I dont know if its the digitizer or the lcd screen itself, I know it was dropped in pee awhile back and has been my child's toy phone for the past year+.  It's disheartening to not know exactly what it is.  The screen is currently 15 on ebay and the digitizer around 8, I wonder if I should just quit and same myself time and headaches and buy a different phone :-? Undecided

No video is the LCD.  No touch is the digitizer. As your phone did get wet it could be both or it could be something on the motherboard too.

Also wanted to throw this out there, that if you completely tear the flex cable in half-like I did-you'll notice a lot of friction when opening your phone. Also, not attaching your flex to the board perfectly can lead to your phone speacker being really faulty. Make sure to attach it all the way in!!! And also, parts can be found on amazon too with tools included to repair it. And lastly, make sure its super duper duper glued in!!!! when you replace the digitzer if your ordering one not preglued into the frame!!! I diddnt have my glued in perfectly-like, not too strongly in, and a simple drop would cause the digitzier cable to tear off or crinkle rendering it useless. Took me 3 times breaking it to be smart and order the dang thing "preglued" into the frame. Much better!!!!!!!! Don't have to worry about the whole hairdryer to melt the glue either.

You could go with one like this which will make a much easier install for you. This is the one I went with.

http://cgi.ebay.com/SAMSUNG-IMPRESSION-SGH-A877-BLUE-FACEPLATE-DIGITIZER-/310234506348?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item483b6ae46c

Or if you want completely brand new and you feel like removing glue and then gluing the new one down...
http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-DIGITIZER-TOUCH-SAMSUNG-A877-IMPRESSION-/200532721726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb0ae803e

There are so many on ebay. But I bought mine from the first seller and it looked brand new. No scratches and made for a really easy install.

I'm just now seeing this thread and noticed my video is recommended!  Thank you very much!  Glad to be of help!
Julie
p.s. Keep track of the screws by taping them down on a piece of paper with the step number next to it.
