Why did my Samsung Impression switch from 3G to EDGE network?

My whole family has AT&T and about 3 weeks ago, the 3G sign turned into the E (Edge) sign. All my friends with the same phone and same carrier are on the 3G network, while my phone is on the Edge network… I'm sitting in class, my friend, she has 3G, I can see it. I have Edge. What's up? My mother has the same phone as I do, and she has Edge network also… What’s wrong??? My dad's phone is next to mine, (he has a Solstice), but he has 3G! I mean, I used to get 3G, but what happened? Anyone else have this? Please answer below. Thanks!

I have been on this forum for quite a while, I have explored the internal and admin menus... so, could that be it?

I was recently having this same problem... Called AT&T, after about an hour and a half between 2 departments and as many Technicians, I was given many instructions and tons of different commands "sent" to my phone to no avail.

Eventually they gave me the code *#63895# which took me into the "Network Mode" screen... My phone was set at Auto, and I was instructed to put it at any of the "UMTS" settings. (I picked UMTS 850/1900) Then hit select or OK. I got a little message about only working on 3G networks (or something like that) but was assured by the tech that it would work on any (I doubt this but what do I know).

After that I was instructed to reboot the phone. This brought my 3G+ back. I am not sure that this will work for you but I thought I would respond since I was having the same issue and now mine works...

**Update**

I just read several posts from the forums on this, and decided to go back into the Network mode screen and change my phone back to Automatic. I did this and 3G is still on.. I think this will work for now, but If I continue to have the phone dropping to Edge for days at a time, I will be going back to switch it to the UMTS setting as instructed by the AT&T technician.

If you pick UMTS only then when that signal doesn't work your phone won't use edge and you will be without service. It will stay on 3G longer even if the signal is weak because that is all it has.
