I set up a yahoo account for my Impression and when I send an email with a jpg attached, the phone acknolwedges that there is a jpg attachment, but it won't open it.  It won't do ANYTHING with it that I can tell.

Is there a better e-mail option for the Impression?  What is the AT&T Yahoo e-mail?  It asks for an sbcglobalnet e-mail address I think.

Would love any tips for the best way to use this device with e-mail.  Thanks!

Unfortuneately there is no attachments with mobile email. There are some third party email apps that are sketchy that can do the job but not that well.

Agoattamer:

Might there be some settings in the Jad file for Mobile email, that could be inhibiting attachments? Another ATT block/hassle?

Connected question: Have you had any success with GB'ing pre-installed apps? Does it work the same way? I'd love to be able to view attached pictures (It's possible in gmail) in Mobile email. And after speaking with a ATT rep, it seems as though ATT is doing the blocking, not Samsung IT. I haven't looked into the jads (if there are any) to see if anything stands out; have you?

Thanks

No its not possible with pre-installed apps. In a sense they are already goatbroken. Att's install method has the same result as mine.

ATT blocks it to keep data bandwith low. It makes me mad also.  If I use opera mini I can go to my yahoo account and least have the options to download the attachment. But it still is a mobile web page. If I use Bolt Browser that is a whole nother story. I use it in desktop layout. I can go to my email account at least with yahoo and you will see the email just like it would be on your pc. Pictures and all. I would assume your gmail account would work the same way in Bolt.

So the way I work mine is I use mobile email (which works through medianet browser) to get a glance at the email. But if it has pics or is a full HTML page I open up BOLT where I have my yahoo account saved as a bookmark and I can see my whole email.

Another quick way is you can have your email forwarded to another email account. Forward it to your phone at 1234567890@mms.att.net where 1234567890 is your 10 digit phone number. It will arrive on your phone as a mms(text with a pic) message. It wont show the email in HTML format but will allow you to see pics and download music as long as they are under 600k. Not that great but always an option.

My advice would be to try Bolt Browser.

Thanks for the info. i'd read elsewhere(on this site), about the 1234567890@ stuff. I'l try that, and maybe the Bolt.

Got another question: In configuring a new Network profile (so I can start w/a different home page),
I noticed under advanced settings, a drop-down list for Traffic Class:

In media net, the only option is "Subscribed". But with a new (user-created) profile, the options are:

Subscribed
Conversation
Streaming
interactive
Background

Do you know what these additional options do? Might they have some bearing on viewing images?

Thanks

Im not sure what they do. But it is interesting. I'll see what I can dig up.

Conversational class mainly regards telephony speech (e.g. GSM). But with Internet and multimedia a number of new applications will require this scheme, for example voice over IP and video conferencing tools. The maximum transfer delay is given by the human perception of video and audio conversation. Therefore the limit for acceptable transfer delay is very strict, as failure to provide low enough transfer delay will result in unacceptable lack of quality. The transfer delay requirement is therefore both significantly lower and more stringent than the round trip delay of the interactive traffic case.

Streaming class is characterised by that the time relations (variation) between information entities (i.e. samples, packets) within a flow shall be preserved, although it does not have any requirements on low transfer delay. As the stream normally is time aligned at the receiving end (in the user equipment), the highest acceptable delay variation over the transmission media is given by the capability of the time alignment function of the application. Acceptable delay variation is thus much greater than the delay variation given by the limits of human perception.

Interactive class is applied when the end-user, that is either a machine or a human, is on line requesting data from remote equipment (e.g. a server). Examples of human interaction with the remote equipment are: web browsing, data base retrieval, server access. Examples of machines interaction with remote equipment are: polling for measurement records and automatic data base enquiries (tele-machines). Interactive traffic is the other classical data communication scheme that on an overall level is characterised by the request response pattern of the end-user. At the message destination there is an entity expecting the message (response) within a certain time. Round trip delay time is therefore one of the key attributes. Another characteristic is that the content of the packets shall be transparently transferred (with low bit error rate).

Background class is applied when the end-user, that typically is a computer, sends and receives data-files during background processing. Examples are background delivery of E-mails, SMS, download of databases and reception of measurement records. Background traffic is one of the classical data communication schemes that on an overall level is characterised by that the destination is not expecting the data within a certain time. The scheme is thus more or less delivery time insensitive. Another characteristic is that the content of the packets shall be transparently transferred (with low bit error rate).

These classes can be grouped as groups of RT (real time) and NRT (non-real time) services, for example: RT traffic corresponds to the Conversational and Streaming traffic classes, while NRT traffic corresponds to the Interactive and Background traffic classes. Separated uplink and downlink values are considered for the services. Uplink is intended for transmissions from the UE to the Node B, or from the MS to the BTS. Downlink is intended the contrary direction of transmission.

Does that mean anything to you? I think you should stay with subscribed.

I use comcast (pop3) as my email provider for my home. They also have webmail. I just made a browser shortcut in my medianet favorites for my comcast webmail. I am able to view full html emails, download attachments, and upload attachments. Using the medianet favorites widget I can go there quickly from my main screen of my phone. I also have comcast send me text message notifications when I get emails. And I get them as soon as I get emails. Not like the email alerts provided by mobile email. This system seems to work perfectly for me. Quicker and better than mobile email.

If your email provider has webmail I suggest you do this too.

I have since made myself up a comcast webmail widget. Now I can read my emails even quicker.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I've just tried it and it does work.
However, does the Comcast email screen seem as confusingly cluttered for you as it does for me?

Keep Smiling,

Craig

Not really? Are you viewing it in desktop mode or mobile mode? It renders perfectly on my phone except for the search bar for some reason in desktop mode. I view in landscape mode with the size of the font on the 4th line from the left or top.  I don't like that it only remembers password sometime for a day instead of the 2 weeks as it is supposed to do.

As long as you are under 600KB you should be getting your message. If it is over 600kb you wont even get the mms message. Make sure you are using the 10 digit number and no 1 in front.

Check your network profile for mms that it is set on MMS. Make sure you have the settings set for 600k and not any lower. Also do you have your data blocked from ATT? If you do that will stop you from getting messages.

ive been playing with it for a while and all the settings are right. it seems that when i send only text with letters i get them. but sometimes there is a delay to get them and other times they go thru right away and i get them instantly. i have tried to send some with small attachments and have received none of them.  I have internet access and receive mms textes from friends with no problem. I have data unlimited on my phone. so i have no data block on my phone. i dont know, its weird what it is doing. Huh
