How do I fix keyboard lag?

Ever since the first time I booted the phone up when I bought it (2 days ago), I seem to type too fast on the hard keyboard for it to keep up with me. (EXAMPLE: Typing "I am a senior in high school and I have a cat" turns into "I am a seior in high cool an i have a ca")
I'm hitting all of the keys, so it's not personal error.

Is there a way to fix this?

Also, how do I get rid of the locked pictures so I can use custom pictures as my lock screen background?

If you are in Normal Sound Profile and have Keypad tone on, i noticed that it had to make the sound for every key you hit. So if you get to far ahead of the sound, it just skips a bunch of lettersto catch up with your typing. What I did was change the Keypad Tone setting to Mute.(although it is still a bit slow)

the lag is only in the text messaging area if you use it anywhere else on the phone like aim,memos,noteable, calender the keyboard works perfectly

Our processor is over 400mhz. Hardly slow for a phone like this. And I really dont think they just want us to text slow.

I just got my phone too and also noticed the lag. 

I noticed if you set the phone to silent the lag isn't quite as bad

Also if you use the touchscreen keyboard the lag isn't as bad either but how fast can you really type on the touch screen..?
