Yes its gmail, but I wanted to see if I could set up push email, so I could get my emails, AS soon as they arrived in my inbox.

OK I see what you are trying to do. You basically would like email alerts for gmail. Since we cant mess with the Imap or pop3 settings yet on our phone you wont be able to do it that way.

But there is another way. Log into your gmail account on the computer. On the top right of the window you will see a "settings" tab.  Click on "settings" then then click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". Chances are that you have already been here if you have looked into IMAP for gmail. Dont mess with the IMAP settings. Instead put a check in the spot for "Forward a copy of incoming mail to " and then enter your email address as your 10 digit phone number "1234567890@txt.att.net" and leave the setting to keep a copy in Gmails inbox.  Then down below select save changes.

Now when someone sends you an email to your gmail account a copy will stay there (including attachments) and a text version will be sent to your phone. Then you can log into gmail on your phone and read it again and then reply if you desire.

I have my (imap)gmail and (pop3/IMAP) comcast set up the same way. I get instant emails through a text and dont even have to open gmail or mobile email to read them. Works great as long  as you have a text messaging plan. Let me know how it works for you.

You can also change your email address from 1234567890@text.att.net to 1234567890@mms.att.net and you will be able to see the attached pictures. I just figured this part out and it is way cool. Its better than mobile email on our phone cause now i can see some attachments.

The text email address works great for notification. The mms email address sent my picture attachments also. I tried one with an mp3 as an attachment and it didnt go through. It was too big. I got this message back in my gmail inbox.

Your message is larger than the destination computer is willing to
accept, so it was returned.  The error message below indicates the
size of your message and the maximum size allowed by the receiving
E-mail system.  You may be able to split your message into several
smaller pieces and have them delivered separately.

Size of this message: 4449336 bytes
Server maximum size: 3145728 bytes

So I guess our mms messages has a limit on 3mb. But it still worked. So if you use the mms email address for forwarding, the message better be under 3mb or it will get returned and you wont get a notification.

I know about mms messaging... Thats what I actually am using now

1234567890@mms.att.net  it works great, but I am kind of a perfectionist, so I was trying to do push email, so I could also reply to my emails without having to download them again, kinda was trying to sync them lol

Sorry, I thought I found a solution for you. You're just too smart. I just posted this on the eternity site.

You know another solution for you would be to set up a yahoo account just for your gmail. Then have gmail forward its emails to the yahoo account. Then set that account up in mobile email on your phone with message alerts turned on. It will give you alerts and you can reply and it will go back to the original sender.
