newtoallthis - I'm struggling with the same thing buddy, we'll get it broken!

Knotode - one of my laptops has been setup with that driver exactly, fail.

I went to research the ATT tethering issue on Howardforums, found some very curious precedents, like http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=12987844&postcount=1253 I wonder how actual it is still. As for the dial-up settings, that thread (page 85) suggests using WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM/CINGULAR1 login/password. Also, something of PAN (personal area network) instead of DUN was mentioned, which doesn't seem to be offered from our phone (I couldn't figure it out). Anyway, I have tried using the given login/pw, it still didn't work for me, still 619.

Just out of frustration I went to try to tether my Nokia N800 internet tablet, expecting an even faster failure. It runs on maemo - portable version of linux. Bloody hell, that little thing got DUNed faster than 1-2-3!!! IT DIDN'T EVEN ASK FOR A NUMBER TO DIAL!!! I just paired it and chose "AT&T Internet" as a provider. Well at least this proved it's not my phone, it's something in the setup of my 3 computers with Win XP on them. But my head is spinning, I don't know what else to try. I have even tried to use the Hyperterminal with the phone, it connected, but I dunno what does it prove...

Halp halp halp

Edit: found this http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1523890&highlight=error+619 but i'm not really thrilled to try any AT&T soft for tethering, since I'm not doing it officially... There's just got to be a way to set it w/o any lame proggy assistance!!

Edit#2: Found this http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=11790760&postcount=28 which was slightly discouraging. But still, it seems like the majority tethers with or without caution and gets away with it. I game (if I ever get it working)!
Also the next post there (#29) gives a little hint perhaps. However using the given WAP login/pw didn't help much.

Another fascinating thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1111340 with some points that are beyond my understanding. Like the string mentioned in the 1st post, where to apply it? Anyone?

If someone would please post some screen shots of the various properties tabs of there working connection it would help eliminate alot of things i keep trying over and over again.

general/options/security/networking/sharing... ppp settings under options... dialing rules.. anything would help...

I have an odd feeling that a 3 year old clicked or unclicked something, and that i just keep missing it.

Success.

However, in a rather lame way. All this eye-boggling forum-reading yielded a little help.

I just remembered something that I saw in the Samsung PC Studio.

You'll need the version for Eternity, IB5 + Drivers 4.40.7

Connect the phone

Go to Toolbox -> Internet Connector. Set up your country. Leave all the login/password as it has set for AT&T.

Connect.

Sadly i cant install anything since i have no current internet connection to download the software. So that wont work for me.

agoat i hear ya. But all it would realy take for anyone that has tested this even once and had it work is a few screen shots. Its not like they need to connect now to get the settings. Just right click the connection that was allready made and go to properties. Know what i mean? I figured it was a long shot to get someone to take screen shots, but no point not asking.

p.s. i have a cable modem too lol damn thing just isnt working and i probably wont get a new one till monday.

I attempted it once myself. Could not get it to connect myself. Kept getting the same error.

I think you can do it through PC-studio, not sure.

Also I have read that others had to use a different number other than *99#. Check on the ATT forums.

agoat must have skipped my last post

newtoallthis - I would have done the screen caps for you, but I cant connect w/o SPC Studio. It did save a connection profile in the network settings. However it doesn't work if I just click it, 619.

it uses:
ATP(dunno where it goes) - WAP.CINGULAR
login - WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
password - CINGULAR1
call# - *99**1*1#

Don't know if you've tried this simple remedy.  I just successfully connected my Impression to my WinXP laptop.  At first, I kept getting error 692 and I couldn't figure it out.  Then I turned my phone off and then back on and VOILA!!!  IT WORKED!!!  If it still doesn't work for you let me know.

That error sounds like the same error you get with TKFE. Because it tries to connect and fails.

For anyone who may end up stranded with no internet like newtoallthis I have uploaded the whole Samsung PC Studio + Driver onto Mobango - a free file sharing network for the mobile platforms. I test-downloaded a file back to my phone, using Opera Mini (MEdia net browser failed). I know it will be a pain in the butt to reassemble the whole thing on the computer (the rar archive is broken into 11 pieces). But if you have a dire need, it's doable.

The extensions of the files have been changed to .MP4 too fool the filter on Mobango. They will need to be changed back to .rar . Also, you can see the actual name of each file as a part of the link (.../ib5_part02/... for ib2.part02.rar). But the file itself gets a numerical name when saved on your phone. So each file needs to be also renamed accordingly "ib5.part01.rar", "ib5.part02.rar" and so on. I recommend to rename each file on the phone right upon downloading, to avoid the mess later. I should also hope that you already have something to extract from rar with.

Mobango requires a free registration at http://www.mobango.com or on your phone  http://m.mobango.com
