Okay I'm pretty tech-savvy but not really sure how to get around that proxy, or is it even possible?

As an interesting sidenote, I can't use Pandora on my phone (obviously they block it so you have to pay), but i can get it over my computer when tethering, making me believe it's maybe possible on the phone.  Man that would be sweet for Pandora in the car...

ATT is supposed to charge a "tethering" fee if you sign up for it.  However, this method does not require you to contact ATT and let them know you are using your data plan to tether to a computer.

Your "unlimited" data plan is not actually unlimited.  There is a supposed cap at 5GB/month based on high data usage on the phone and ATT charges you for data after that...if they catch on.  So you can take a chance and see what a month of usage is for you and if it's under the 5GB level, don't worry about it.  This is one of those ways that people end up with a bill in the 1000s though so use at your own risk.

Over 20,000 views! I wouldn't have thought that a tutorial written by a retarded midget mutant nerd (FireBert) could be read that many times and the reader's head not spontaneously burst into flames from sheer insanity.

To mark this occasion, I will let the great people of this forum know that I now tether my phone to my Ultimate Ubuntu - Gamers Edition distro (Lucid Lynx 10.04). For those of you not familiar with what that is, its Linux, plain and simple. Anyone needing a tutorial can request one from me, if not, its cool. I'm pretty sure that would be a long one!

Anyways, I do  have lots of time on my hands, as I am in Indiana on military orders and nothing to do for 8 hours a day. Isn't "gubermint" work so efficient?

Well, seems like I have a taker on the Linux method. I will try to type it up when I get some time now. I'm on my way back to AR and home. Gotta look at the other desktops too, since I'm using gnome, and I  know others are using kde. Let me know if there are other setups to be considered.

Made an impression with the Impression by posting this with my Impression!

I'm still hacking away at the Linux how-to. sorry for the delay. I am about 25%, as I am overloaded with home issues at the moment. I haven't forgot.

I got this to work with my Dell Windows XP laptop using the Samsung Eternity version 1.4.1 of PC studio and drivers, but I noticed that while on the internet this way the connection icon is different. Instead of a globe with a green arrow only when I'm transmitting or receiving, it's a globe with a red arrow constantly. I have service with AT&T and have unlimited data, is the data I'm using the same as if I was using the MediaNET on the phone or am I using voice minutes. Basically from someone thats used this with a similar service plan, if I use this regularly will I get a surprise with my bill?

BTW to who ever figured this one out thank you, I'm very grateful, nice site too.

Not sure if you know this or not, but how do they get away with calling it an unlimited data plan if its got a cap of 5Gs?

WOW this is awesome I am using XP on my laptop and installed the impression as a modem. Works just as fast as my DSL cable connection but I think Im going with the wise words of goat. Im only going to use this connection method in emergency situations where I have no internet. Im paying for Brighthouse DSL anyway.
