The camera has a digital zoom. It hardly zooms at higher resolution pics. But the lower the resolution the more it is capable of zooming.

Why do you suppose that is. Why can't you zoom on 3mp?

I'm not sure what Samsung was thinking, why they would allow zooming in one mode but not another, but it really does not matter. This phone like all others I've seen uses a digital zooming technique, not optical zooming (actually changing the focal length of the lens). imho, instead of taking pictures in 2m and "zooming" you'll be better off taking your pictures in 3m mode and then cropping the image when you print.

I agree. I've been using 3mp so far and have been happy with the results. I've uploaded several to my facebook and they look quite good. I just think it would have been nice to have a zoom option in the higher res, but I guess that's what you buy a digital camera for.

Conversation whiplash..... Has anyone gotten any decent results from the video function? I just got the phone btw and am still learning as I go.

The reason it does not zoom in 3mp mode is because that is the maximum size of the image sensor. If you look, you will see that the smaller image size you choose, the more the camera will zoom. This is because the camera is using the extra information available to the image sensor to do the digital zoom. Thus this digital zoom will have minimal to no quality loss.

Thank you rada!  That's what I was thinking.  It only zooms in the lower quality modes as to not degrade the quality of the picture.  I noticed that i could zoom all the way in in .3 mp mode and it looked just fine.  So .3 mp zoomed all the way in still .3 mp.
