You may be setting it up but are you selecting save or set at the end of the process? Quig's instructions are correct.

thanks quig,

well past my prime here too.  i did assign for the "caller ringtone" and it does show up under the contact as the name of the mp3 that i want, but still gives the tone picked under
  • menu
  • settings
  • sound profile
  • normal
  • voice call ringtone

thank you too Agoattamer,
never doubted that the instructions were correct, just trying to figure out where i might have gone astray.  in my old age, too many times this new fangled equipment gets the better of me.

yep, saved it at the end and checked it at

  • contacts
  • person's name
  • ringtone
and the name of my mp3 is there.  so i thought i was golden at that point, but still when the wife calls i only get the "call ringtone" that i set for all the other calls and not the individual "caller ringtone"
i just know there's probably something really simple i'm not doing but i can't figure out what.

thanks again for looking and taking the time to encourage.  this really is a great place for info.

Might have a solution. How many numbers do you have entered in her contact info? Do you have more than 1? If yes, is there a checkmark next to her cell number? Maybe the ringtone only works for the default number.

If she has more than 1 number, from her contact page (not the edit page) select 'more' and select 'mark as default'. Should say 'number'. Select 'number' then select her cell number then 'done'.

Try again

Just taking a stab in the dark.  Grin

Yep,  tried that too.  even tried taking out the second number so there is only one number and still the same thing.

this sure seems right, and i know has to be something right in front of my nose 'cause it's both phones doing the same thing.  so i must have done something to both.  just can't for the life of me figure out what.

sorry to be so difficult guys. but really, really appreciate the help

Oh  Shocked Crud!

figured it out.  sorry to have wasted a lot of your time and energy.  the phone number was coming in with the area code and phone number. i had only put in the phone number so it wasn't recognizing the number correctly.   Tongue

Now it works!  Huzzah!  Grin Cheesy

Sorry guys, thanks for the patience and effort.

You should enter all your contacts with the area code. As this phone seems to think they are different numbers when it feels like it. I know to send her a text you have to have the area code included or your text wont go through.

Feel better now that you figured it out?  Grin

 Tongue

I'm thankful you guys would only ban me for a month.  Grin

mucho relieved.  you would not believe the laughter coming from my wife everytime i thought i had it and the same nokia tone would come out.  Shocked now i've put a ringtone of (if you know old music, you'll like this) papa oom mow mow. so when i call today now that it works, i'm hoping she'll get a good laugh.

thanks to you both again.
