If you have just got your Impression, or you did not install any of the PC Studio files.

Or you upgraded to windows 64bit (or windows 7) you can use the program listed below to allow TKFile Explorer to work.

I did not install any PC Studio, because every time I did it would hang and I would not be able to cancel it, nor could I delete it in Add & Remove programs.

I was running windows XP 64Bit.

Update:

I am running Windows 7 64Bit

I finally got TKFE to work with the drivers I have listed at the end of this message.

  • Download the drivers I have listed
  • (Dont have your phone plugged in) Run the exe file..It will unrar to a temp directory, then run the driver install program.  Complete the driver install.
  • Plug in your phone. It will NOT find the drivers
  • Go into device manager, and find SAMSUNG CMDA Technologies or something similar.  It will have a small yellow triangle in the left corner.
  • Right click and go to update driver software.
  • Click "browse my computer for driver software."
  • Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
  • Under Manufacturer find & Click "SAMSUNG Electronics Co, Ltd."
  • Under Models Click on "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modems"
  • Click next..It should update the drivers, so that you can use your phone with TKFE.

You now need to find the right COM port.

  • Go back to Device manager
  • There you should see under modems "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem"
  • Right click, and choose properties.
  • Under the modem tab you will see the COM port.
  • Open TKFE
  • Click on settings.
  • In the place where it says port enter the com port you found in the modem tab.  Make sure you have the word COM before the number.  "COM#"
  • Click on Connect and you should be connected

So I've been unable to get any of the drivers working.  I'm on windows 7 64bit and i tried installing just the modem driver but windows still doesnt recognize it as the correct driver for the Samsung CDMA.  Ive tried installing PC studio version 332 and 321 and IC8 but all of them either crash during install or get error while trying to connect to the phone.  I first installed pc studio 332 and it crashed during install, and now im stuck with unremovable icons in the Programs menu.  Any ideas on how to get a working driver?

Well, I had the same problem, and had to reinstall windows XP 64.  That may be your problem, and you may have to reinstall.

I will look into how to uninstall the program that crashed during install, as I think that might be the cause of why you can't get it to work.

I tried installing just the driver you posted on a different computer, also windows 7 64bit, and it installed fine, but windows still doesn't recognize it as the correct driver.  I may try reinstalling it in compatibility mode but I'm not sure if it will make a difference.  Is there any way to use TKFE over bluetooth?  The phone will connect and register a COM port over that.

Yes, but I have not figured it out completely yet. I accidently got it working the other day, and it was working fast and it was extremely stable. Then the next time I tried I couldnt get it to connect at all. Point is, it is possible, though not necessarily easy.

This driver files attached work for multiple OS versions. I just tested that this works on XP Pro with no PC Studio software ever installed.

Try rebooting your phone. Search the TKFE threads as this thread is about the usb modem and not TKFE.

I don't understand what is going on here.  Does this program actually work with the impression?  I doubt it!  I have been reading post after post about the same problems (the ones I am having) with NO answer.  The driver DOESN'T work!  It installs but is not recognized.  I am using vista.  Tried 2 PCs and it doesn't work.  I can get the PC Studio to work but not the TKFileExplorer.  It will not work because the USB driver doesn't work.  I think that this phone only works with older OS or just other Phones, not the newest Impressions.  Is it possible that ATT put some type of different restriction on the newer batches? I am still yet to read a post with a resolution to this problem.

It does work. It works with every form of windows out there I believe.  If you can install pc-studio and get it to connect then you can get TKFE to connect.

If it doesn't work then how did 1000 users or more get it to connect already?  TKFE uses the same driver that pc-studio uses.

Make sure your phone is set to pc-studio mode and not ask mode. Connect your phone to pc-studio and make sure it connects.  Close pc-studios. Do not disconnect cable. Reboot your phone. Start up TKFE. Click on the settings tab and select com. On new window click on drop down menu arrow next to com and select your port that is there. Hit OK. Now hit the connect icon or file tab and then connect.

If you get a disconnect error then reboot your phone and try again.

It is an unstable connection as you will soon learn. But if you payed attention to most posts, everyone ends up getting it connected. The first connection is always the hardest. Maybe if you would have read those hints given throughout the forum you wouldn't be doubting anything.  Wink

Not trying to be rude I am just frustrated.  I have been reading this forum and a couple of others.  I have tried all the "tips".  Just a little FYI.  There is only 3 options on the Impression when you connect USB.  Media Player, PC Studio and Mass Storage. I love the website.  I think what you do here is amazing.  I am just a WM6 guy trying to learn how to use my new phone.  I have read just as many success stories as failure stories about this connection process. From 9 this morning till 9pm I have installed and uninstalled , restarted, disconnected and reconnected and the same results have occurred. If there is anyone who has had my problem, AND SOLVED them, Lets start a new thread and make it a sticky.  I think there is a problem with NEW Impressions.  I got mine yesterday.  Are those of you with this problem owners of newer phones?  When did you get yours?  Maybe we can help eachother?

Dear Forum,
I am an idiot.   I got the program to work.  For those fellow idiots here is what I was doing wrong.
I thought that "setting to PC Studio" was on of the 3 options I needed to pick.  It needs to be changed in the settings (DUUUH).
Settings>Connectivity>Select USB Mode>Samsung PC Studio.
Works like a charm.

Sorry,
Idiot
