Hopefully this is not the beginning of the end...  This phone has been so good to me over the past 1 1/4 years!

So I was using my phone normally today (games, calls, internet, and messaging...) when I had to shut it off to go through a scanner and into a courtroom.   Afterwards I turned it back on, played 3-D skiing, and sent an email.... then got into my car and opened the widget bar to get to my favorites... it opened then the entire thing froze on me.  Nothing happened.  Totally unresponsive- opened the keyboard and the screen when white.  Closed it, still white.  Shut it off and rebooted it with no problems, however screen was still frozen(not white anymore, however).  So I pulled the battery, sim and mms card and drove back to the office (35 minute drive).  It then turned on fine and is not frozen anymore.. Only thing I can think of that caused it was plugging in a set of aftermarket headphones(but used them fine a few days ago).

1st thing I did was change connectivity to pc studio just in case it acts up again-more permanently.  I have started to notice a few "glitches" over the past several weeks- nothing major, just enough to take my notice for a second or two.

So it happened to me again...  Same situation, opened the widget bar and pulled out the top five contacts to call my wife.  It froze at that point.

So I opened the keyboard and it went totally white.  But then I pushed the multi-task button and was able to access all functions with absolutely nothing wrong with my touch screen... however once I closed the function, screen was still white and unresponsive.

I then went into the camera with no problems.  Then when I closed the camera, my screen image was back but still frozen.  It turned white again when I opened the keyboard.  I had my wife call me and her image came up and it worked fine...

I find it interesting that the screen is actually quite responsive when I go through the multitask functions- making me believe it is not a touchscreen issue.  I am still going to buy the digitizer and flex cable and get operating...

Then again I can get the captivate at walmart for $48 IF ATT will early upgrade me!!!

to continue the escapade...This time taking the battery, sim and mms card out did not help. I decided to let the battery run out. When the battery low warning came on it "shocked" my home screen out of being frozen and it was totally responsive, until later that night when I pulled out the quick dial widget and once again it froze.  I let it run out of juice again and when it vibrated it unfroze again...

I already ordered the flex cable and digitizer and will replace them when they arrive- we will see if that fixed the problem!

It is interesting that it only seems to happen when you try to use the widget. Sounds more like a software issue than a harware issue. Have you tried to reset the phone? maybe not a full reset just a diplay and light reset.

So this afternoon I remembered I changed my brother's cantact picture about the same time all this started. I checked it out and the picture was 3 megs in size!  The quick dial widget could not handle it being attached. Once I changed it back, no problems... so far!

So it was more software related than a hardware issue. Well glad you figured it out and now since you already ordered the digitizer and flex cable you will be all set if or when you need them. LOL

I just wonder if anyone else gave up on their their phone or had it replaced due to similar issues.  Good to know the size capabilities and limitations for setting contact photos!!
