New to this forum and just trying to make a decision.  A friend of mine is giving me this impression basically for free and I want to know how it compares to a Blackberry 8300.  My wife needs a replacement phone.  She basically uses the Blackberry for emails and to update her Facebook.  We are with tmobile and I want to know how this phone compares before I go through the trouble of unlocking it.  Any advice would be useful.  Also if there are Farmville players out there, could you tell me if the impression can be used for this (Farmville) as well. Thanks in advance.

The impression is not a smartphone. If you use it on tmobile, you won't get 3g, only EDGE. The default email on it can't compare with a blackberry (or any other smartphone really). You can't play farmville because there is no flash support. For facebook, you can use facebook mobile (http://m.facebook.com).

note: I don't have an impression, but I have an Eternity (basically an Impression without the keyboard)

The main reason it isn't a smartphone is basically cause it doesn't have Windows Mobile, iOS, BlackBerry OS, or Android.  If some genius got Android onto it (which is for the most part impossible right now) I guess it could count as a smartphone.  And like Undiscovered said, all AT&T smartphones have WiFi.

even if it got android oh it (which would be AMAZING) it would still not be too good because of the resistive touchscreen. its a pain to use compared to the capacitive touchscreens of almost all smartphones save for a few winmo phones.

Although some people I know prefer resistive because they can use their long nails instead of their fingertips.  Tongue

Many would prefer resistive because they can also use a stylus. My nieghbor has a resistive touch diamond and I installed swype on it. Amazingly swype even works very well on it.
