Hi, Am fola, recently nicked this nice fone off a flea market. it was really clean and nice to look at.

anyway, nice to join this forum, lotsa smart folks here.

err,ok, my issues:

1. my phone dont pick 3G signals, at all, stuck on edge. though i surmise that that is'nt the fault of the phone. someone told me that the only 3G band supported in my country is 2100mhz, and the phone does not support that band! tough luck.

2. i cannot seem to get my email and chat messaging to work.

i dont stay in the US, so i dont know how much of an issue this is. i tried to input my Email settings in the messaging section, actually just Yahoo and Gmail accounts, but when i try to retrieve mails it says unspecified error?

likewise for the inbuilt yahoo chat thingy, it says network unavailable, but i do surf with the browser and opera mini!!

anyway, im hoping someone can tell me whats up with it, i hope i can make this work. cos i need it badly, and i do prefer native clients to java apps.

and hey man, Agoattamer and ors you guys are the bomb!! respect men. i love all the hacks u got up here man, already doing the goatbreaking, the sounds, and lotsa stuff man, thanks ya'all

Hello welcome to the forum.

You need to set your phone up with the appropriate APN settings.  On the impression that is your medianet network profile and your mms profile and select them as default. Also set your third party apps to use the new network profile.

menu/settings/connectivity/network profiles

You can find the correct info by calling your carrier and asking for it,  or seacrching for it on google. It may be that you do not live in the U.S. but try the above and see if it works.

thanks E.Cadro

if i understand what you are saying, yes i already did set up my apns and stuff. i can surf on the phone with the inbuilt browser, and opera mini and bolt.

i do not live in the US true, which was why i asked the question. am wondering if there isnt some hidden settings in INTERNALS that ties the messaging to AT&T servers.

other than that, i cannot fathom a reason why they dont work. especially the yahoo chat client. especially seeing that i specify my settings for the chat client, yet it does not connect.

the mail too under messaging. it says "unknown error" anytime i try to retrieve mail. (i have used the wizard to set up my accounts)

Hope to get this working, else it be a big shame. im loving the phone, i need to be able to retrieve Emails on the go automatically, and stay online with chat too

I am about 90% sure that the IM and 100% that the email only works with ATT. There are 3rd party apps that can use the popular IM services. And you can always use medianet and better yet Bolt to check your email through webmail.

I WAS working on changing the IM servers, and the first test failed, changing from AT&T to T-Mobile.

I don't have an Impression anymore, so I can't work on it anymore. If you want me to post what I did to try to change from AT&T to T-Mobile on the IM client, I can. But only if you want it.

Not really.   Tongue  As it didn't work anyways. And original poster does not have T-mobile USA.

True.

I "think" I read at some point that the Eternity people changed their IM servers.

And I offered to post it so the OP can change the server to their carrier's mobile IM if the carrier supported it, but since it doesn't work...LOL, ok just ignore me my bad.

NAh thanks

i do think you should post it, its worth trying. anything is worth trying, long as i dont brick the phone.
hmmn, where and how did the eternity people do that?

anyway, im using Ebuddy to chat now, (pain in the neck i think) but not bad at all,
my grouse with it is, the audio notifications is really low!

i minimize it to do stuff and cant hear the notification when a new message comes in! only helps a bit when it vibrates whilst in my pocket. how can i make it louder?

already tried the sound thingy agoattamer posted, does'nt make any difference with the ebuddy IM client

Attempts to change the email and IM servers on the eternity forum all failed also.

Here is a sugestion. We don't know your carrier.  Is there a java phone, preferably samsung similiar to the impression for your carrier? Possibly the IM application and email application may be java apps and can be extracted and then installed on your phone.

Nah, not that i know about.

anyway, am cool.

is it just me or is the battery life on this phone seriously bad?

the battery lasts maybe 2.5 hrs max when listening to music through earphones or watching a movie.

when i surf the internet with it, thats the really crazy part, dies off in 40 minutes!!! Cry Cry Cry

i cannot for the life of me understand how a phone could have that kinda jerky battery life, is it this way with other folks?

secondly, i guess this has been answered b4, but if i do flash this phone, will i have to unlock it again? i bought it already unlocked by the way. am wondering if it would be locked back to AT&T, and if thats the case, how can i unlock it back?

am not in america, so talking to AT&T is not an option!

Reflashing your phone will not lock it again. You are safe.

As far as battery.....I would say your battery is going bad or you have a cheap imitation battery.

Ok thanks.

one last thing though.
can you help me with the number for the battery for the phone. thot about ordering it from a store, but the fella there asked me for the number, i guess the batteries have some kind of serial number?

secondly, u know i just kinda figured out i cannot install anything unless i use blueftp or tkfe!
i did not notice at first, but now whenever i try it fails.

i understand the limitations with installing without goatbreaking and all that, but not being able to install OTA at all? kinda iffy man. for instance iv been trying to update the Bolt browser on the phone to no avail!
i can hunt down the jar somewhere i guess, but that would mean looking for a touch version bla bla bla. sigh!

whats wrong?

The battery that come with our phone is a Samsung AB603443CA 1000 m Ah 3.7 V Li-ion
You can install things OTA but you need to use the phones media net browser to due so and most apps require goatbraking to allow full permissions games are not as much of an issue to install OTA since most do not require permissions.

As far the Bolt 2.3 you can go to
http://boltbrowser.com via your media net browser and download it but it will over right your prev version and will have the dpad and all the issues that come with not goatbreaking the app. But once installed you can go in via TKFE and goatbreak it. You will also have to edit the jad file to allow full screen as well. I will try later today to post the newer version with the edited jad to the original bolt browser post in the third party software section
