What's the differences between the 2? Will AT&T be upgrading to the 4G network anytime soon?

I thought I read somewhere on the net that the 3G+ was the 4G signal.  And they do have the fastest connection. But I guess everyone saw the map that the verizon commercial has. To get that great signal is spotty.

AT&T and Verizon will be using LTE (Long Term Evolution) as their 4G solution.  I wouldn't count on either really having widespread 4G coverage until 2012.

Sprint's 4G is based on WiMax, a competing technology to LTE.  WiMax is theoretically slower than LTE.

Nokia and Ericsson are both going whole hog into supplying the LTE mobile infrastructure equipment, and not bothering with WiMax.

The providers leaning towards LTE represent 4.6 billion subscribers worldwide.  Where do you think phone manufacturers are going to be building the better phones?

I remember asking att about sprints 4g and att's 3g and they said that the speed is faster for att's 3g network.

4G = Peak Data rates of 100 MBPS
3G = 14.8 MBPS

4G is dramatically faster. It is also completely pointless unless you're streaming 1080P HD video to your device. Even on a 4.8 inch screen, going to a resolution that high is pointless. Your eye can't process it all. 720P is definitely a worthy alternative, but that streams just ducky on a 3G network, as YouTube has proven, and looks great on a small screen.

In the future 4G I'm sure will be quite worthy, when our Cell Phones go the opposite direction they went in the past and start getting bigger, and turning more into slate like devices, as some already are starting to, and have outputs for TV's projectors, and the like, but at the actual consumer level, we won't see it being needed.

Don't buy into the hype of a 4g network. It's great if you're on a laptop a lot, or something like that. In fact, right now it's only available as an addon card for laptops, but even then, it's a bit of overkill, at least IMO.

It's an amazing technology, don't get me wrong... and in the future will be awesome... but don't think that by paying the premium for it now is a good idea. You'll pay through the nose for it, and really... not see much benefit.
