Anyone else experience this with AT&T?  I have a couple of lines that don't have data plans, but do have plans for text and picture messaging.  If no picture messages are sent during a month, there is no data overage.  But, when picture messages are sent there is typically about 9 kb of data overage per picture message that was sent during the month.

This seems very odd to me, but AT&T says someone must be opening and closing the browser by accident.  This is a very consistent "accident" that seems to very closely overlap with the number of picture messages sent during a given billing cycle.

Anyone else experiencing this regularly occurring billing irregularity?

It shows up on your AT&T Dashboard, but the "data overage" is charged as MMS (what you refer to as picture messaging) on the actual bill.

Is ATT actually charging you for this data?

I kept getting data charges on my daughters' phones.  AT&T gave me the same story - they were accidently opening the internet.  I wound up putting the $10 data plan on each line cuz it was more than that for data charges for each line.

I think AT&T is slipping nickel and dime data charges for MMS in our bill and hoping no one will notice.

What about apps that use data? Maybe your daughter is going on the web without you knowing? There could be a lot of explanations...AT&T's explanation is just plain stupid.

you know that you can put a data block on the phones that dont have data plans on them right? i did this because they kept doing this to me also. i got tired or complaining and didnt want to add data plans to my kids phones. everytime you receive or send anything besides a regular letter text, you will be charged data fees. that is bs but they do that. you need to call them up and tell them to put a data block on those phones. if they say they cant, then just hang up and talk to another rep. you will find one that will do that for you. hope this helps.

Putting a data block on a phone will prevent you from using picture messages too.  If you pay for picture messages and use that feature, the data block may not be a good idea.  Of course, you lose nothing if you don't use picture messages anyway.  Associates suggested the data block to me, but I didn't want to disable the picture messages which the line does sometimes use.

Sadly, I guess with me the big greedy corporate bully won.  I pay AT&T the data overage fees they charge each month picture messaging is used.  They seem to keep their "overage fees" low enough it is not worth the hassle of addressing, and in turn they get to skim a little more every so often.  I think it is immoral what they do, but I got tired of their threats each time I asked them to fix their mistakes.  They kept saying that if there was an overage, then they would force me to put a data plan on that line.  If you have the time and the patience, they will adjust it, but you have to put up with a lot of threats, bullying, and intimidation before they are willing to fix their own errors.  Paying their "overage fee" is less than the cost of a data plan for a line that only uses data for occasional picture messages.  I don't like paying twice for the same service, but AT&T holds all the power.  Seems that if you want to use the picture message option you pay for with AT&T on a line without a data plan, expect to be charged again for the data the picture message uses.

Verizon was forced to give back, I believe, 56M? It was because they added an extra $1 or $2 to everybody's bill by accident. I'm sure if you consult a lawyer, you can save yourself and others a lot of money.
