So when I got this phone, I knew nothing of it. Just a quick internet search to compare with the other selections offered at my local walmart store- was won over by the full keyboard and some of the applications that came with the phone.  I was initially a bit hesitant based on some complaints I heard, but have experienced none of them personally.  I have 1 more year before being able to upgrade and am loving all I can do with this phone through this forum.  I look forward to a year filled with modding, experimenting, and goatbreaking!!

Admittedly, I am drooling over the new Blackberry Torch- that may be my next phone, but am wondering what anyone has heard about it so far?

Being a RIM product...it will probably suck in terms of apps and stuff. Email will be great though (but email, IM, SMS, Facebook, etc. will all be integrated in the same darn place.)

Torch has 2009 hardware. We are almost done with 2010. Why get the Torch when we have the Galaxy S series?

Reviews are lackluster at best.  I was excited to see the slide out qwerty, plus add the Blackberry capabilities, and I thought it would be a rival to more modern smart phones.  but it really seems to have fallen short- and about 2 years behind in all other areas.  I am a bit disappointed with what I have read. The "updated" OS does not even support the apps that have been created already so it is limited in that respect- plus clunky and limiting in other areas.  Luckily I have one more year and am not even near ready to move on from the Impression yet!!

I agree. After playing with android for only a month, it can do so much. Not sure if it could do push emails yet.

OK, I've been reading reviews for the Captivate and it outshines the Torch in so many areas it is not funny.   Overall, it is comprable to the IPhone and some reviews put it ahead.  Of course, by the time I am ready to upgrade, something else will come along...!!!  The torch has died out.

So I finally got to compare the Torch and Captivate (and Focus) in my own hands yesterday.  All were working models, so I could interact and play with the features.

Focus and Captivate are VERY similar in abilities and performance- however polar opposites in operating systems.  Focus was very simple to use and felt good in my hand- BUT I HATE THE TILES!!! not much ability to personalize- but it has a flash for the camera...

Torch- Sucked.  all the way.  just plain sucked.  In my hand it felt cheap, lopsided, and just wrong... like when you hold the hand of a date you really don't want to be on... nothing more to say.

The Captivate felt bulkier than the Focus, but more solid than the Torch.  It's display was amazing and very responsive.  I think the Torch beat it with its calendar functions and layout, but that's about it.  The captivate reminded me so much of what I do not like about the Iphone's app layout-very messy- I hate a desktop with icons all over it... but at least it can be customized once I actually own one.

In all, I didn't want to put the Captivate down once I began to play with it.  It definitely wins my vote.
