It is really AT&T's problem.  They designed the phone and compiled the software from the source code provided by Samsung.  All samsung does is manufacture the phone in agreement to use their software, modified by AT&T.

They don't do it cause they don't want people making modified firmware changes or installing android onto "dumb"phones.  If they made it open source, somebody would find a way to install Android super quick and nobody would buy the 300 dollar smart phones, or have to get the 15 dollar per month data plan.  They would just buy the 50 dollar Impression or the 25 dollar solstice and turn it into a smartphone.  So in the end, the real reason they don't let everybody look at it is so they can get more money.  AT&T is just being greedy, like every other corporation in the world.

If you owned ATT, would you?  Roll Eyes  You buy the phone for what it is when you purchase it.

The NSpro box have the last version firmware now, the A899UCID3, you can download it from the support page, if the flashes on the other Samsung phones are very simples with NSpro, don`t think should be a big problem with the impression.

I'm curious as to what exactly happens if you do.

Your phone will brick, and you will be forced to flash the phone with the Impression firmware.

Wrong. Others have crossed flashed and created a permanent brick.
