For anyone having the "Serial port open error!" here is what I had to do.

When I did a port search on multiloader, I always got 2 ports. Usually COM8 & COM10 depending on which usb port I plugged in to. COM8 would be listed in the top lefthand slot, COM10 in the top right hand. Of the 2, my phone was physically on COM10 listed in the device manager. So...

Go to Control Panel>Device Manager.

Expand "Ports (COM & LPT)

Right click on your phone. (Should be listed as Samsung Modem Diagnostic Port or something similar)

Click "Properties" then the "Port Settings" tab.

Click "Advanced"

At the bottom there is a drop down to select COM Port Number. Select what ever COM port shows up in Multiloader first (i.e. COM8 in my case), even if it says it is in use and click through the "port in use" dialog and then click okay on the main dialog.

Then select Action->scan for hardware changes on the Device Manager tool bar.

Now go back to Multiloader and do a port search again. You should get 2 of the same ports listed. Mine both had [GENIE] in the white field next to the port. Make sure you select the top left hand port and hit download.

It worked fine for me then.

Oh and thanks Luie for the write up.

Hey everyone thanks for all the cool post you all rock!

My problem is I don't understand how to put my phone in boot loader. When I turn on my phone and press the down volume button nothing happens. The only time I get boot loader screen is when search for the port on the downloader v5 it goes into boot loader and when I hit download nothing happens it says download start ch
  • and stays doesn't do nothing after that , I take battery out and turn on my phone and goes into regular setting. Thanks for being patient.

You have to hold down the down volume button BEFORE you turn the phone on, keep keep holding it while turning the phone on. You have to search for the port, select the right port, then locate the flash files.

nice guide. But what does pre-configuration option do? does it reset the phone? do you lose all your data (video, pictures)? thanks.  Grin

alright, i clicked download, but the button remained faded after being depressed, and nothing is happening, tried closing it, but it gave me a warning stating if i want to cancel the download. the dumb question is, does that mean its downloading, even thou there is no progress bar, and in the box is says, Download start CH [1]?
