Hi, guys.

Not to long ago, I went to Radioshack and saw the Samsung Impression dummy phone. The dummy phone had its lock button a little bit more easier to unlock, more like the camera button. I was wondering if I could modify my lock button to be a little bit mor like the dummy phone. The next day, I got all my tools ready just to open up the phone. I opened it up (surprisingly difficult) and i "installed" a small piece of plastic about the size of the button on the contact piece of the lock button. Immidietely I saw the difference. The only problem was that the lock button would always slip upwards. I taped the two "hooks" that hold the lock button in place and put the case back on, I didnt screw the screw near the lock button to tight because it made the lock button a little to hard to push. So far I like the mod I did. Smiley

dude i did it, the other day i was bored so i decided to open the phone up like at 1 am so when i was digging in there i remembered your post and decided to try it, the only plastic found was too think so the hooks wouldn't stay in place so i tried a little piece of carton and it worked like charm, i love the lock button now. and chicken the hooks are what holds the button in place.

thanks for the mod i should painting the hole phone in a few weeks so i guess im going to be joining the mod fam.

Could you guys post pictures of this procedure? It would be helpful for the rest of us to simply see the steps visually. A few pictures with a friend's cell phone, or a cheap camera, would be worth a thousand words.

took me a while to figure out... but so far, it works like a charm and feels a lot better!

So I tried to take a few photos to show the do's and don'ts of modifying the key. Let them load Smiley

When you've finally pried the back casing off, you can see that all the buttons are essentially the same. However the clear plastic that is used on the back of the lock button is somehow thinner than the others and therefore don't push the button itself further out of the case

Find a piece of plastic or something similar. What this does is that it simply pushes the button further out of the case. I just used a bit of plastic from some old packaging that I found.

The first time I did this, I cut the piece of plastic too long. Make sure it's just small enough to cover the contact button on the inside (you'll see it, it's silver)

I find the easiest way to install this is to first leave the original button in place. Then put small pieces of tape on the 'springs' (left and right circle) to keep them down because they will try to pop up when you put something behind the button. Place the small piece of plastic infront of the contact (center circle). Finally, what I've done is cut very thin pieces of plastic on each side to prevent the middle piece from sliding.

Finally (and this took me forever to figure out), cut the small pieces of plastic on top of the button (circled faintly in the picture). If you don't, there's a chance that it will get caught on the case when you put it back together. The button sticks and won't work, so just cut it off.

screw everything back together and your button should now be raised and easier to use! Hope this helps!

Yep, I don't take pocket photos, so I don't pocket-unlock.

And it's been modded for a day and I LOVE it! No more annoying almost-open-the-keyboard, no more waiting for the menu to flip landscape then portrait, no more need for nails, it's just easy to unlock! Thanks again Dgtal for figuring out what most of us didn't try!

I tried to take out the screws on the back plate, but apparently they were put on with a miniature hydraulic screwdriver....not worth tearing up the phone!!!

I'm a bit skittish about opening up my phone.  Any model builders out there that added a piece of plastic to their button with some superglue?
