Have been going through this phone with a fine tooth comb and have come up nv_default.ini in Settings/Default/NV section of the phone. I copied it to the computer and have been going though it. And boy! It sure does have a lot of parameters. This one caught my eye 3/4's down the page:

NV_SI_USER_LOCKED_WALLPAPER=

Of course it's blank but that may be a lead. Perhaps there is at least a parameter that can be nulled so you can delete those factory pictures, keep the folder, upload user pictures and the phone will cycle through them upon lock. Just a thought.

I've also noted that I seen something in the internals about something reguarding the default settings. Could have been theme or style or something but there is only one option for settings and its the one default (maybe this). Don't know yet but I've got SWSD (Shift Word Disorder) going on and I'm way laggged......

Just too much hard coding to set a function to set a lock screen image. Seems more simple to just null out the locks.

Could be more??::

NV_SI_SET_RANDOM_WALLPAPER_NUM=5
NV_SI_SET_WALLPAPER_TYPE_BACK=0

If this has already been discussed I am sorry, but search yielded nothing. If I am beating a dead horse please let me know.

UPDATE:
Just went through most the of the .ini files and txt files to help pinpoint. I got a full backup (of the impression), a full pot of coffee, a full playlist, and a few hours free time. I just hope my editing software isn't too out dated to open .dat and configuration files. This is going to take some time because I'm going to Linux and having to transfer to Windows (which has no drivers to support internet (safety reasons)).

Well it seems like u know what ur doing, but it doesnt hurt to be extra cautious as we DO NOT have our firmware yet.  I believe u may just be doing what Goat has already done however, because he has been all throughout the phone's internals and hasn't found anything, but i really dont know what method he has done...maybe u can find something he missed, just be careful not to brick ur phone "even though u did say u backed up ur phones internal on ur pc, so im assuming ur doing it on ur pc and not ur actual phone, so u should be just fine"...i really hope u figure this out so ppl can stop the crying (o there is a much better word i wouldnt mind using here, but its a family site) and moaning about a few pictures they will BARELY EVER see...i mean what could be more fun than locking ur screen just to look at it (note the sarcasm.)   But keep us updated, if u succeed u will become a hero on this site.

There's quite a bit more of information and parameters in the .dat files. Problem is what I'm doing is a bit much for the average owner. I'm still digging, and I might have to change my approach to find hidden files and folders. Might have to call a friend that's a little more fresh on this subject because I am a bit rusty. I've done a bit of coding before, but as mentioned above, I'm a bit rusty so this may take some time. Then again, I could come to the same conclusion as goat, but winter is rapidly approaching so I need something productive to do this winter.

I Found this in the NVDefault.ini Maybe its a breakthrough maybe its not. Just Hopin it helps figure this ugly lockscreen out

"NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG=/SystemFS/Media/Pictures/01 Bridge at Sunset.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_THEME=
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_PICTURE=/SystemFS/Media/Pictures/01 Bridge at Sunset.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_HOMESCREEN_BACKUP_PICTURE=/SystemFS/Media/Pictures/01 Bridge at Sunset.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_DEFAULT_IMG=/SystemFS/Media/Pictures/01 Bridge at Sunset.bmp"

I just found this too i was browsing the internet it looks like they may have manipulated the nv_default. on the samsung star.

Hello All,
This post of mine is very brief.. I am currently very busy with my work, so hardly get time to maintain my blog. Anyways THE WHOLE CREDIT FOR THIS GOES TO DARKFOREST & HIS TEAM FOR THEIR DEDICATION & HARD WORK. The below content is straight extract from them mail sent by Darforest to me.I'll be adding the proper steps later on (ie with the picture & all).
Before we start, like always TAKE BACKUP OF YOU PHONE. IF YOU SCREW UP IN THE PROCESS NEITHER I OR DARKFOREST WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT.!!!!!

Now thats all clear.. then just follow the below steps. (The below is the extract from the mail sent by Darforest)

This is the nv_original.ini file you will need, taken from XEII4 firmware download it.
4shared.com/file/146853253/f5f85cf1/nv_original.html

This file will need to replace the one located in the " Baltic " folder on your phone.

I have added the lines that needed to activate dark theme (black theme), so you just have to transfer the file .

steps for this method -->

connect your phone and start tk file explorer

open systemFS --> settings --> preconfiguration --> Baltic --> NV --> put this file there.

to put this file ... you can see two windows in tk file ..... just on the upper window go wherever you have this file and drag down in the NV folder of Baltic

After this close tkfile..... and disconnect phone.

Do preconfig on the phone

dial *#6984125*# --> Pre-connfiguration --> *#73561*# -- > select Baltic.

Your phone will restart and the new theme will be active.

*Note...
But if you change the theme to red or green, it will be gone, you will need to do the Pre-configuration again to see it.
So if you like it don't change it back to green or red

Nice try but we dont have a Baltic folder on our phone. This does not apply to the samsung impression. Not sure if Darkforest has ever seen a samsung impression. Please attempt your mods on your own phone before getting the forum excited over something that wont work.

Well i tried but heres something else... i was browsing the "Mythic" forum and found this.

"""""have you guys tried this already?

Lines 630 and 631 of the file nv_default.ini are

NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_TYPE=0
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_INDEX=-1

(note that they are not with the other lines that talk about the idle screen)

Not sure what the image type means but indexing might refer to an indexed sequence.

and then lines 924 through 928 seem to set "01 Sunrise Beach.bmp" as the base of the sequence( which btw is reset whenever the phone is powered off/on because sunrise beach is always the first lock screen picture.)

NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG=/SystemFS/Media/Picture/01 Sunrise Beach.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_THEME=
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_PICTURE=/SystemFS/Media/Picture/01 Sunrise Beach.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_IMG_HOMESCREEN_BACKUP_PICTURE=/SystemFS/Media/Picture/01 Sunrise Beach.bmp
NV_SI_SCREEN_IDLE_DEFAULT_IMG=/SystemFS/Media/Picture/01 Sunrise Beach.bmp

What if we set the default images in the 924-928 lines to a new single .bmp and then disabled the index command?

"-1" as a value might be an "execute" comand rather than a binary setting because it comes up most often in lines like:

NV_SI_SET_LOCAL_TIMEZONE=-1
NV_SI_SET_LOCAL_DAYLIGHT_SAVING=-1

which are automatically reset values.

In other commands it appears that the boolean is "0" for true/on and "1" for false/off

-So-

If we installed a 281k bitmap in /SystemFS/Media/Picture/ , changed lines 924-928 to reflect that new filename and then set line 631 to "1" instead of "-1".........?

let me sum up by saying that I am a huge chicken and can't really afford to brick this phone right now. Do you know what happens when this phone throws up an error? can we still connect vie TKFE and restore the file?

Let me know what you think

-Don""""""

all credit goes to this user  i am really not feeling these lock screen images and if this doesnt help i will keep looking in the filesystem.

As we have stated before 1) we cannot switch out those pics with qpst or tkfe. They are locked. Also those pics are not the locked screens. There is another copy of those pics used for the locked screensaver.

There are a load of RBM files in a hidden folder. \system\rsrc\Bmp\Black.  You cannot see the folder with TKFE. But there is no application known to modify these RBM files yet. It is something a few of us are constantly working on.
