I'm legally deaf and can't hear phones, so I use these phones as PDA's, texting and email.
When I had my Blackberry and Blackjack, there were aps or programs you could buy that would turn the screen on when you get a text mail. It would either have a blinking light or the screen would come on and stay on for a certain amount of time.

Do they have anything like that for this phone? Or is their a hack that can be made for that?

I use the vibration when it's in my pocket, but I need something for when it's laying on the desk.

Sorry, dude(t), I'd love to help ya, but I have no clue. I'll look and see but I'm not promising anything, I'm not very techy...
I'm actually surprised that no one has responded yet. They usually respond pretty quickly.

Yup, searched for about an hour  Huh, couldn't find anything but the mosquito tone and devices that flashed whenever your phone rings, but I assume that you don't want to buy anything if you don't have to.
That is prolly just proving that I am not good with search engines, though. Sorry  Cry

Actually I'm willing to pay for a program or ap that can light up my screen, wallpaper, or? when I get a text mail. Blackberry has many aps you can get, but I'm not finding it for this phone. I hope this phone is not that limited???

I'm sure a program can be built / hacked so the screen lights up at intervals when I get a text mail.

Well, I'm getting frustrated because AT&T seems to think that every person in the entire world has either an iPhone or Blackberry. When I searched "deaf" in AT&T's website, it didn't come up with much. This MIGHT help, if you are able to get this app onto the impression (that would require someone else helping you Roll Eyes)

Quote
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/articles-resources/disability-resources/disability-messaging-solutions.jsp
AT&T is aware that applications have been developed for BlackBerry and other messaging devices to meet the needs of customers with disabilities. One such application is WyndTell®, a two-way wireless service application developed for the deaf and hard of hearing community. When enabled on the messaging device, it is our understanding that the WyndTell service provides complete wireless communication via email, TTY, fax, alphanumeric paging and even voice telephones. For more information on the WyndTell service, visit www.blackberry.com  or www.wyndtell.com.

BUT I tried to look at http://www.wyndtell.com/ but my internet isn't letting me (I'm guessing something is wrong with my internet or the website??) AT&T keeps talking about TAP http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/articles-resources/disability-resources/text-accessibility-plan-for-iphone.jsp program, which doesn't sound like something you're wanting. I'm sure someone like goat or Damien will be here in seconds with a quick fix for ya. I'm sure you're right that our phones aren't THAT limited, but, like I said, I'm not very techy, so I'm prolly googeling the wrong thing and just confusing you more than helping you  Grin sorry about that

Seems like everything is for either iphone or Blackberry. Samsung had better get on the ball.

I'm sure a program or app can be made by a programmer.
Can't be hard to get the screen to come on at intervals, after all it does come on when you get the first text message, but if you miss it, it doesn't come on anymore.

If I can't find a solution soon, I will have to switch to iphone or blackberry as I can't be missing calls with my work.

The only thing that I can think of is to change the settings on the sound profile to do "Periodic Message Alert Repetition"

Go to Menu>Settings>Sound Profile>"Select which profile you want">Select Message from dropdown menu.  You'll have to do this for each profile you have if you switch between sound profiles.  Hope this at least helps a little.

Since I am deaf, I have all sounds off. Vibration only.
I'm going to look into it anyways to see... Thanks for trying to help for sure!
I turned on the "Periodic Message Alert Repetition"
Hopefully that means the little box that pops up too. If that is the case, that might help.

If the vibration mode wont do it, you could always put it on the normal mode and just turn the ringer volume all the way down and turn the vibration up with the periodic alert ON.  Let us know what works if anything.

OK, I'll try that as the vibrator mode does no good while phone is on the desk.  Smiley

Nope, same thing. Vibrator only. The only time the screen lights up is the first time the message shows up.

I've already missed way too many text messages with this phone. If I have it in my pocket all the time... it is fine, but that isn't practical.

I think it is time to take this phone back and get either the Blackberry or iphone as those have several kind of alerts that either blink a light or the whole screen comes on off and on at intervals until I answer the phone.

Too bad Samsung can't compete with Blackberry or iphone... their losing me as a customer.

I've waited a few weeks for some more responses?
Any hackers or programers here?

When I get a text, there is a message box that comes on for a few seconds. After that it just vibrates every so often but doesn't help me if it's on my desk.
Can a hacker here fix it so the messege box comes on every so often until I answer it?

And if anyone knows of a program being sold out there that does something like this, let me know.
