Hello all...

I know there is a lot of chatter about how to make ringtones, their low quality due to size limitations, etc. I am posting this because I have tried other programs just for grins and the one I list below always beats them out in the end. I find the "online" ones a bit intrusive asking for my cell number and there are "ringtone" makers that ask the same thing - call me old fashioned but I'm picky about giving out my cell # for such things. Not that anybody would want my identity or anything since I couldn't finance a box of raisins anyway.

Buuut...I digress...

Rather than try and pick a thread to answer, I chose to start a new one here in this Category so I hope it helps.

Since the inception of mp3 usable phones I have been utilizing a little program called WavePad Audio Editing Software. I found it by accident a long time ago and it's still being updated by a company called NCH. >>> http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html

Now, my version is old and as such was free back in the day. I know they have a download but it probably is a trial. It's a bit pricey at $69.00 so you'll have to decide if it's worth it to buy it.

I'm sure if you look really, really hard you can find someone who has a free version still stitting around. (No I don't sorry...Lost the install back when my data drive crashed.)

So here's what it can do...

Open an mp3 for editing
You can select any part of the mp3 for your ringtone
Copy that portion only to a new file then add "faid in" and "faid out" if you like.
Then save that new file as a new mp3 with multiple output formating options.
**Certainly, the program is designed to do much more than make ringtones with a price tag of $70 bucks but this is what I use it for...

I personally make all my ringtones about 30 seconds long  and set the sample rate to 80 with high quality selected. That makes my newly created ringtone to be about 290kb in size. Just right for our Impressions and the quality is great!

I hope this helps and you can all find a free version so you can enjoy making ringtones as easily as I do...
