To do this your contacts have to be on the phone itself, rather than on the Sim card.

To do this:

1) bring up your menu, and click on the Address Book.
2) Click on Sim Management
3) Click on Copy Contacts to Phone

At that point, all your sim contacts should also be on the phone itself. To get rid of, or not display the duplicates:

1) While in the Address Book application, Click on Address Book Settings
2) Click View Contacts From
3) Click on Phone, and save.


Now you're only viewing contacts on the phone, and they're all copied from the sim card. Now, you'll want to make sure new contacts get saved to the phone:

1) See Step 1 from above
2) Click on Save New Contacts to
3) Select Phone, and save it.


For safety's sake, be sure to periodically back up your contacts to the Sim card, so you basically have 2 copies, one of which is portable, and easy to put into a new phone.

Now you can set your custom ringtones to whatever contact you like, your contacts are only being viewed from one location, and you know how to back them u!
