It is called an increasing ringtone. It does it on its own. There is no settings to stop it on the impression.

So is the ringtone gonna be longer? or is it just the same, about 20-25 sec?

If you have voicemail turned off it will ring for a long time. Not sure how long before ATT cuts it off. But with voicemail the most you are gonna get is 30 seconds.

If the ringtone is still the same, then what the point of doing this?

There is no point in doing this. Do you expect your phone to ring for 3 1/2 minutes before you answer the phone. I don't think so. But there are others that just have to have a full song for their ringtone instead of spending 2 minutes making an under 300k appropriate ringtone.

this works great for songs with epic intro's. other then that you may as well make your own custom ringtones, but hey i love this ability  Cheesy

There is no setting in the internals. Every cell phone I ever had, had a limitation on ringtone size. That included nokias, motorolas, S.E., and samsuing.

Motorola? Nah, Motorola kick's samsung's jerk. Even my freakin' 2005 RAZR was able to hold ringtones that were about 3 times the size limitation of our 2009 Impression. Ridiculous.

So Motorola did it...My sony had limitations. Whats the point? Do you sit there and let your phone ring for 20-30 seconds to just hear your ringtone? Besides that the beginning of songs dont make for the best ringtone.

Same with my Sony-Ericsson W580i. I could set 8MB mp3 files as ringtones if I wanted to...

I think the point with larger ringtones (at least for me) is not to be able to use full songs, but to use better quality mp3 files. I use Cakewalk Pyro to create my ringtones, and I've always left them at 320Kbps. To fit my 15-18 second ringtones on the Impression, I have to compress them to 80 or even 64Kbps. Even with the tinny sounding single channel speaker that the Impression has, you can hear a definate quality difference between a 64Kbps and a 320Kbps sound file.

Yes we know but this is an impression forum. If you had eternity you would see it posted on the eternity forum too.
