Well its not that bad. I am here to help you through it. Im not best for giving instructions. Hopefully you have a data plan it makes everything simpler and safer. The hardest part is getting TKFileExplorer to connect. Once you do this the first time the rest is a breeze. Read the links carefully and take notes if you want. Remember if you have a data plan you will not be deleting that phonedb_data.00 file. That is the dangerous part. I wished ATT made it simpler for us. But at this time this is the only way to do it. And up till recently that I discovered these ways these things couldnt be done.

I installed amazegps a few days ago, and it kept freezing on me while navigating so I deleted it and tried reinstalling it today.  Now everytime I open the program it says "Current version out of date.  Please download a new version".    The version I have is 4.5, so I tried redownloading and still get the same version and same message.  Does anyone else have this issue?

Thanks!

Did you download amaze from amazegps.com or from somewhere on this forum?  4.5 is the current version. But they are supposed to release a bugfix anyday. Please be sure with all the changes lately to go to wap.amazegps.com on your phone and download the signed version for the eternity before applying the goatbreaking method.  If you did just get it from them give it a day or 2 till they get the new version up. My phone is down till tuesday so i cant check.

OK I just checked and they released a new version today. Give it a try.

Ya, I installed the sign version from the wap.amazegps.com website.  I'll give it a couple days to see if a new version goes up since the link keeps taking me to the 4.5 version.

Thanks for your response!

I get it up and running great and then next time i start it up i get..

"Current version out-of-date. Please download a new version"?

after this prompt it gives me 2 choices 1."Now" meaning dnload
and install a new version which i did a couple of times, and 2. Exit..,Lol

This works AWESOME and appreciate the posts and efforts in hacking
this to work so well, just hope someone knows a work around for this
consistant error i am getting.

OK, here is the story from amaze. Even though they just released a bug fix yesterday they are planning on putting v5 up. However v5 is not up yet so we are all stuck in a loop at the moment. Why they did this I dont know. Maybe they were tired of me asking for the bugs to get fixxed. I messaged them to remove the darn update link and that was their reply. Hopefully it will be soon. Mine is doing the same thing. I will post when it is ready.

Thanks for the update Goat, Sounds like we'll have some hope soon... Wink

This little GPS works so awesomely "When it works" it reminds me of a little
Garmin..! I couldn't believe how cool it works with the "Voice" turn by turn and
accuracy...Today was my first time trying it out & when testing i tried throwing
it a couple of curves by deliberatly turning off the trail and it even said something
like "Re-calculating" and got me back on trail without a hitch...truly Awesome !!!

Yes amaze is a really good app when its working. Best free voice turn by turn out there. Well its the only one for that fact. We had a few bugs and i dont know why they did this last change. But they claim v5 is going to be AMAZEing. lol. Hopefully we will not have to wait long.

If you follow directions in this thread then you wont brick your phone. This way is pretty safe but a pain in the but the first time. The only unsafe way is if you dont have a data plan. It does say safely in the title of the thread.  Roll Eyes

Amaze lifted the update notification on our phone. You can again use amaze. No v5 yet but it is just around the corner.

So Mr. Tamer,

I tried your method and it works great and thanks for the full screen touch version.

But Google maps still wont use internal GPS to find my location.

My question is am I making a mistake on my end or is this just a version issue and is not written to use GPS for our phones.

Amaze and the rest are cool and all but I'm good with maps and directions Id rather have search and phone number lookup built in.

God am I becoming the google version of a mac fan boy....shudder.

Mikey it has been stated  quite a few times that google maps does not use a gps on java phones.  As far as i know it only works on a few smartphones.

Have you ever tried the yellowpages app that came installed on your phone? It is free, nothing to hack, has a nice map, and it has a yellowpages search. It will give you directions and the phone number too. It is a very nice app that people seem to overlook.

I know I know Im just that guy. I use the yellow pages app but that wont search for something unless you know at least the city.

For example I cant just search for six flags in NJ  I had to find the town and then look it up.

Good Grief...

So whats the problem? Use google maps for your search engine then. If you need a gps then use another app. Ive given you a touchscreen version of google maps and made it possible to use any gps apps on this phone. If that is not sufficient I suggest you get a smartphone then. I dont know what else to tell you.
