Hi.
I'm a new samsung impression user.  Currently wading through the manual.

I already turned off most of the vibrating and lowered screen brightness.

Or perhaps the GPS not on unless it is actively being used?

I would believe it is not on unless it is being accessed.  If it was on then gps locations would start immediately when gps applications start.  And they don't. Takes a few seconds to a few minutes sometimes.

App. GPS is not active unless App. is in use. 911 locator GPS is on when phone is on & can not be disabled. Yes the Police 911 Dispatcher can tell you what U.S. Postal address you are at when you call & before you ask all public roads have 911 addresses assigned even where there are no active residential addresses. That's the reason for the 911 fee on your bill. Later---

Thank you!

I had gathered (just about 45 minutes ago!) from the GPS Guide that the GPS was inactive until an application started.
