This is very simple.

dial *#6984125*#

choose option 3 "Network & call settings"

now choose option 3 "Network Order"

now choose "GSM first"

now hit "save" and your phone will now ignore 3G networks.

enjoy longer lasting battery

That is not correct. If you do that, it does not disable 3G or ignore 3G networks.

You need to have a specific sim card but you use the admin code *#6984125*#
choose option 3 "Network & call settings"
now choose option 3 "Network Mode"
and choose GSM Only and hit select

If you cannot see the network mode option I believe you need a different sim card.

I have a 5 year old card and it gives me that option. Seems newer cards won't allow it.

cool ... I have a 3g sim card and can change that option ...

I just want to make sure I got this stright ... going to the "e" or GMS only will not effect what my phone can do, (gps internet and mms) but it will effect battery life (in a good way) and Down load speeds (in a bad way)?

Let me know if I am just missing the mark on this .... Thanks

This shouldnt affect your downloads. This doesnt turn off 3G as the first poster suggests.

TKfilerocker is right I tried it and changing the setting to GSm first makes  the network mode option available in the network and call settings menu. (*#197328640# go to 1(debug screen) then option 8(phone control) then option 3 (NAS Contriol) then option 3 UIM CLass (selecting this option changes the class) so if it was UTMS it will be GSM.
I changed the setting to "gsm first" and that allows me to change the network mode setting to whatever i want.(I have a 3g sim card and this option was not available until i changed the  Also, i live in a terrible network coverage area and changing the network mode setting to GSM 850 made my phone able to use the internet because my phone isnt always looking for 3g
Sorry AGoat GEuss you can't always be right LOL!

Mine has always done it. Just reporting what the other 100 members siad when they couldnt do it.

And TKfileRocker only mentioned about network order. He never mentioned that changing the order allowed that option to appear. So I guess I  wasnt wrong, was I?

And my card is a 3G card too.

Goat I have a 5 month old phone and 3g Att sim card, using admin code and going to network order the option is gsm first or wcdma first. Select choice & save.

That's what I was saying. There is no option for network mode. If you select gsm first and then save. Reboot your phone and does network mode now appear?

Goat when I set gsm first 3G+ icon stays in place as normal, BUT my Google Maps with all your mods is now picking up GPS so fast that it barely has time to display approximate position on screen. Less than 1 sec. to GPS lock, G Maps also loads faster and searches faster.Same with Bolt & media net. Btw I am inside house sky is cloudy & raining. What You think?? Later---
