So I crashed my phone and its been like 3 months since I had it. Luckily when I brought it to the at&t store the guy looked at it and saw that it was in perfect physical condition so they will send me a new one because of the one year warranty.  Grin  Thank goodness I back everything up regularly!

So I wont be able to play with the app for a few days, but when I did have the app running I went through all the settings and fixed them to what would make sense. one of the gps options was to use the internal gps which I had it select. this still didn't work.

Thanks for the help

What do you mean you crashed your phone? Was it in a loop or just stayed on the bootup screen. If it was stuck on the bootup screen pull battery and remove memory card. Plug phone in to charge. Turn on phone and let it set over night. It will be booted back up by the moring. At that point it may be fine or you might need to do a master reset to clear the memory.

Wow, now I feel really stupid. I plugged my phone in and once it hit full battery I was able to successfully boot it up. How does that work?

Anyways back to the MG Maps issue. So I followed your guide for allowing 3rd party access to gps and set the program to use internal gps, but it still doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas?

Has anyone in CA or NY tried We-Travel? Would goatbreaking be required for that app as well?

All gps apps have to be installed with TKFE or goatbroken if installed by downloading it from a wap install server.

I'm sure I've stumbled across these questions in this forum somewhere else, but have been unsuccessful at relocated the answers.  So, I ask again.

I'm running the latest non-beta version of MGMaps (1.39.21 using the signed jad and the listed jar).  I choose offline settings and accurately specify my map location.  MGMaps works like a champ.  However, later, on wireless.att.com, I see that I'm incurring small data usages corresponding to the EXACT times of my GPS usage--bursts of about 5-7KB.  I'm presuming this means that MGMaps is making my Impression use the network.   So, I went through and set up a dummy connection, made sure that all the apps were pointing at that connection generically.  Yet, with more trials, I see that I still incur this charge.

Am I missing something in the setup that makes this application truly data-free?  I also notice that when the phone is put in "Airplane Mode" I cannot acquire a signal.  Is the GPS receiver on our phone  completely dependent upon network data to triangulate my position?

If the solution/answer is already on this forum, kindly just point me to the link and I'll be quite okay.

Thanks,

Jon

Seems like you have done extensive testing. I know that without a data signal you cannot get the agps to connect. There are settings in the internals to change settings. But by default the gps is set to stand alone. To mee that means without the assist but it does not work this way. Check out toast's stickied thread on gps.

So, I called ATT and had them disable the capability of my phone to grab data (I hadn't really wanted it anyway!).  I am now not getting charged and am (supposedly) still able to receive txt messages (although I haven't tried).

But you now won't be able to send or receive picture messages. Does your gps still connect now?

I don't really care about sending picture messages or not.  That's what USB and broadband are intended to do.

I can connect now.  It takes about 45 seconds to grab the GPS signal.

Now, I need to do some testing on microSD card and mapsizes.  What I'm seeing is that once I get about 200 MB worth of maps, the phone slows down considerably.  Perhaps this has something to do with latency of the card?

This has to do with the phone indexing or maybe caching the map files. If there was a way to hide the map files from the phone it should run much faster.

Is there any such way?

Also, do we know anything about the software GpsMid (http://gpsmid.sourceforge.net/prebuild/)?
