I am trying to install MgMaps or We-Travel for use without data (cached maps). But I've done many trials and installations by far, and the maps still don't show on MgMaps and the GPS is still unrecognized.

Here's what I did for MgMaps;
I edited the .jad file to include the following (at the end of the file using notepad):
Code:
MIDlet-Touch-Support: True
UseNativeTextButtons: false
ReverseSoftkeys: true
UseNativeCommands: false

Then used TkFileExplorer to put the .jar and .jad in "Exe\Java\Games\mgmaps"
Then used mapcacher.com to create a Yahoo! Maps .map file (from 1 to 15 Zoom level) and used gMapMaker to download it to a folder "MGMapsCache" located in  Program Files.
Then I copied the MGMapsCache folder to the memory card root; so it would be \Mmc\MGMapsCache

Then I did the master key thing and updated the Java and apps Databases.

Then, in MGmaps, I set it to offline mode and stored maps, and directed it to \Mmc\MGMapsCache\
All it gives me is just the level one zoom and it doesn't recognize my location and the compass doesn't work.

It's about the same problem with the We-Travel; but the entire file system is made for a phone which can execute .jar files directly from a file explorer.

Can someone help me and tell me what settings to use and what I'm doing wrong?

I just got the Impression Yesterday, so that explains the limited knowledge.

Thank you for your help.

Forget wetravel. Doesnt work with our phone. Tried it.

How big of a file is the map you made in MB's?  What kind of a map did you make? Yahoo, google, satelite, regular map? You also need to select your map so it knows what to use in the mgmaps program.

Did you tell mgmaps to use your internal gps. In the mgmaps app select the menu/settings/GPS/Select device and choose internal and then save. Also don't be trying this in your living room. Go outside in the open sky to get a gps connection.

I made a lot of files ranging from 10 to 170 mb, none of them work, I did put in the GPS Settings that it should use the internal gps, but I haven't tried it outside, because I still don't have the maps yet.

Are the files in MGMapCache supposed to be like this:
YahooMap1, YahooMap2, etc. and inside those folders, other folders names like this: 0, 1, 62, 63 and some random numbers. and inside those folders, files named like this: 0_0.mgm,  0_1.mgm, 1_0.mgm, 1_1.mgm (those are from the folders inside the YahooMap1 folder) or are they supposed to be organized differently, and if so, how do I do that?

The maps seem correct.
Yes you put the MGMapsCache folder on the root of your memory card. You need to select which map for mgmaps to use. If you dont go outside how do you expect mgmaps to know where you are and display a map? GPS needs to connect otherwise you will only get a world map.

ok, I got the maps to work offline, and i went outside for five minutes and kept doing the GPS > where am I? thing, but it kept giving me an error message.

Earlier, there was a thread that explained some of the GPS settings, I think I played with them according to what the thread had said (it's in the Internals Menu > LBS settings). What should these settings be?

You would have to go by what Toast said on there. I believe he gave the better settings according to his research.

My phone is still all stard settings. I have a small yahoo map I use for testing purposes. I selected stored maps and offline mode, Then I set my cached folder. I exited and started mgmaps up again just like it told me. I went to the map selection and made sure yahoo map was the only one selected since that is what I made a map of. By the time I did that the gps was on and mu location determined on my made map.

Can you give me your current Settings? (In the Internals, under LBS Settings; all three setting types, If it won't be too much trouble?)

Thanks a lot for your help and patience

There are way more than 3 settings

MT Setting
  Auto confirm - accept

User Settings
  A-GPS-UP
  MS Based
  ON

System Settings
  Lock - Off
  Enable Warm State - Disable

What about Server config, FQDN Config, Service Option, Session Type, Cold Start, Number of Fixes, Time between fixes, Threshold

Edit, after putting in some of your settings, the "Get Position Test" works again, but when I press on Sat.info, it says "Get Satellite Status: Fail to request satellite information"

I've done all that and waited outside for another five minutes, but still nothing on Mgmaps.

However, the "Get Position test" > Sat.info now just keeps saying "Get Satellite Status : Waiting Response" and the same goes for Pos.info

I'll just wait for like half an hour on this and see what happens.
