The GPS in MGMaps has worked perfectly for me.  Always within a couple feet of where I'm standing and it loads in 5-10 seconds as long as I'm 3G connected.  I'm also curious what is "horrible" about it?

One other thing.  Is there a way to get the map to auto-zoom to a specific level?  Mine always starts on a "world" view and then I have to manually zoom.  Can't seem to find it in the options...

Go into the settings and I have checked off remenber position and remember last map that way when the app boots up it starts with last map I looked at which is a zoomed view. I have mine set on mobile tracking so it follows me whevever I go. When the app boots up it will show my last position until it gets a fix on my new location and then when the new location map loads I am already zoomed.

Not sure if this is the right way.

This link takes you to mgmaps help section. It has a user guide and tells you how to configure it and other needed to know items. I guess if we read the directions we would know how to use it. lol. Im going to when i get a chance. http://www.mgmaps.com/help.php

And for the people that say its not accurate. Either you didnt wait long enough to get enough satellites connected or the signal is being blocked somewhat cause you are inside, under biggy trees, or next to tall buildings. If I use mgmaps from inside my home it will hardly ever pinpoint my location. It can be from 100yds to a mile off. When I go outside and it gets a better connection (and it doesnt happen the second you walk out your door) it finds  my location within a few feet.

I have the 1.4 development version installed. It will let you set the shortcuts on the keyboard so when you are in full screen in landscape mode you can open your keyboard and use the shortcuts. This is an added bonus that the other version doesnt have.

Cheapo I think you are using google maps and not mgmaps. These are 2 different apps. Google maps doesnt use a gps it uses cell towers to get an approximation of your location. Using the settings.bin hack does nothing for this application. Mgmaps is very similiar to google maps but not associated at all. It uses the gps if you apply the settings.bin hack and will store the maps for you if you dont have a data plan for your phone.

so i sat out in my driveway (no trees or buildings nearby on top of a huge hill) for about ten minutes and it never would tell me where i am at. it kept saying wait for the GPS position could not be determined. i have read the help on their website and i cant find anything that directly addresses my issue.

ok so i read your thread on "goatbreaking" but i am not sure i understand what that accomplishes.

can you maybe sum that up in some simple terms for me. how will "goatbreaking" make the gps work correctly?

I will try and be brief. Yes you can install googlemaps with just rumkin or imserba. But att blocks it from using the gps because it is not signed (authorized with an ATT certificate). After you install it the first time you use TKFE to go into its folder and delete the appdb folder(this is where att forms the settings as to what the app can do) and the manifest.mf cause it wont be needed anymore. Then when you run the app it reinstalls through the backdoor this time granting all permissions. So now it can use the gps.

ATT only allows ATT apps to use the memory card or use the gps. This is the only safe way around it. Installing with the offline procedure using TKFE has the same result.

Wow.. I didnt know that. All this time I thought it was using the GPS. That now explains why it doesnt work in certain areas when I am travelling.

once again  Thanks Goat!
