It doesn't seem like there has been much development around widgets.  Even Samsung didn't do much with them.  I think if we came up with a contruct of what a widget should be and do, it could help us in determining what to do with them.

It would also be nice to start a list of requested widgets.

I think the best widgets are ones that work one way when docked in the widget bar, and do more when on the display screen.  I think the photo widget is a good example of this.  When it is in the widget bar and you press it, it opens a listing of your pictures.  When you have it on the display screen, you can use it to set the display screen image.  Granted, maybe not the most useful of widgets, but the functionality seems solid enough.

If we could figure out how to launch applications via the widget, I think the most useful widget we could write would be a favorite applications shortcut widget.  While docked on the taskbar, tapping it could take you to the Games & Apps screen.  Dragging it out to the display screen would give you something like the speed dial widget, and would launch your favorites.

If you want to know about widgets then login to samsung innovator.com. It has been said in the widget thread that we cant link widgets to apps. We cant make widgets active in the widget bar. Browser shortcuts and html applications is it for now.
