Well dumbledore the reviews are in and your e-reader appears to be a hit on both the impression and the solstice. I did get a java memory error once or twice but other than that seems to run well. Just so you know for us to allow for full permisions we must install the jar and jad via tkfe or if installed ota we need to goatbrake the app. This applies to both the impression and solstice. We can not allow permissions via any phone menu options. But great app. thanks for sharing.

I am flattered by the positive response! But there's also the thing that I've been programming the app for over six months. But what matters in the end is the public response. It's forums like that that make it possible for me to reach my audience. Thanks for your support, it means a lot and it is a great help!

If anyone wants to thank me, please, go to the 'thanks' page at the official site, and hit the like button. Thus, your gratitude would be reported in a more centralized way.

By the way, the app's been going fine on getjar.

E.Cadro, I'd like to know what you mean by 'java memory error'? If it's happening, something's wrong. That's because Impression's got around 10MB of heap memory, and also because anything big (like images and the dictionary indices) are cached so that the phone wouldn't incidentally run out of memory. The fact is, that on my Samsung Star I haven't once run into this kind of error. I'd like also to know what's that trouble with the installation? As I said, I don't have a Samsung Impression phone myself, so I don't really follow you there. On my Samsung Star I haven't got a problem whether it's OTA or through the file manager. It's true that any time I start the app the AMS asks for read and write permissions but it's not that bad. It's only 2 questions per session. Or you mean something else by 'permissions'?

Thanks people! You've really made me feel at home here  Smiley

As far as permissions what I mean is for the app to be able to access the phone file system we need to install the jar an jad direct into the phone exe/java/games folder and then use a master code to update the java data base or if installed via OTA we need to go into the apps file and delete the db file and use the master code to update the java db. It is not your app it is how we have to things to get around our carrier att permission blocks on the impression and solstice. If you want to learn more about what I am talking about go to the how to section and look the post how to allow full permissions. Thee java memory error happened when I exited the app then tried to reopen it or another app afterwards it happend just after I had installed it and I did not write down the actual error message but has not happened since. So it may have been something with my phone itself and not the solstice or impression in general.

Thanks for the detailed explanation E.Cadro! I am sorry for the trouble with the installation, but it's still good that there is a way of doing it. I've fiddled with TKFE and it's pretty advanced stuff.

By the way with some more memory-hungry apps, it may take a couple (up to 5) of seconds before the app fully closes even though it's no longer visible. Therefore, I presume it's this that produced the out of memory error.

By the way, would you care to hear about my new project? It's called Flypad. The name comes from it's main functionality: a wireless touchpad. It would also be a wireless keyboard and a wireless driving wheel. All this through bluetooth. Only that I haven't bought a bluetooth dongle, yet  Grin But I've tested it quite a bit.

No needs for apologies about install we need to this with any app that we want to allow access to the file system like opera mini requires the same techniques(Goatbreaking Thanks Goat). Also I am sure you are correct about the error because I did not wait at all I closed and tried to open it right away. The new project sounds cool but I do not have a boothtooth dongle either so I would not be able to test it :-(

If I might add on that install procedure. Here is the issue. This is an ATT carrier branded phone. Only apps signed by cingular can access the filesystem. This is how ATT has the phone locked down. But by installing the app with TKFE it somehow tricks the phone into thinking the app is signed by cingular. This gives any app full permission then.

Any app that requires access to the filesystem, bluetooth, gps, and to use the internet without asking every 5 seconds requires this install method.

And I may be wrong here but I think the impression's heap memory is 5MB.

Agoattamer, thanks for the explanation! It's a common problem to many models from many brands. Still, it's fantastic you've found a work around :-)!

By the way, luckily enough, I hope you're wrong about the heap. See here. This is obtained through running  a test midlet on the original device. Note also that, like many other phones, the Impression's got a growing heap, i.e. starts at around 1.5MB and then continues up. The bad thing about it is that garbage collection is a bit funny and caching couldn't be very optimal.

Hello! :3 I'm really glad that you took the time to make this app. I've been wondering for a long time if there were anything like this.
I've never really messed around with my phone much, so I'm afraid I have no idea what I'm doing. Tongue I saved the app to my computer from your website and copied it into my phone's "other files" folder, as "videos", "pictures", etc. are the only other folders open. Then I disconnected my phone, went into "my stuff", clicked the file... and got an "unsupported file type" error.
I can't download it from the internet on my phone as I don't have a data package. Is there any way for me to get this app on my phone?
